kil78
just got tales of the heresy and I though you guys would want to know, that one of the shorts features Bulveye and the 13th company from before the heresy. it is pretty good and it also gives the founding story for the 13th. Grey Mage
Thanks for the heads up, weve had a couple of them though. Any ratings? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165258-tales-of-the-heresy-wolves-at-the-door/#findComment-1945018 Share on other sites
Beef
I read it and have to say it was a great story. It showed the SW in great light, Less robotic than other chapters and more individualistic. Also showed that SW did have older fenrisian warrior take the gene seed even though other chapters did not do that as the gene seed would not take but with the SW it did in a few like Bullveye. Bit of extra fluff there for me to collect Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165258-tales-of-the-heresy-wolves-at-the-door/#findComment-1945021 Share on other sites
Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
i took that as the older fenrisian warriors were the hardest there was, as the story goes to mentions that only a score (i believ) made this transition out of hundreds... Durfast Spiritwolf
Yeah, only a third made it through the gene implanting successfully. It's slightly out of sync in its terms with fluff in "Visions of War", so no differentiation between Blood Claws/Fenris Bloods or any Wulfen Packs. Also in visions, Russ's veterans are the Varangi rather than the core of 13th Company - hey ho! LPetersson
Thanks for the heads up, weve had a couple of them though. Any ratings? I would give it 9 out of 10. Great story that shows the humanity of the wolves as well as how hard we are. The ending is absolutely amazing, and probably not what you see coming... It was a great contrast to the Dark Angels story that shows how the Calibanites are just bloodthirsty warmongers ^_^ *ahem* Couldn't resist... Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
i was actually shocked by the ending (which rarely happens in 40k novels), but the more i think of it 40k-wise it made sense...no good deed goes unpunished. kil78
I also thought it was interesting that the the 13th company had two nicknames the gray beards and the wolf brothers. which is interesting when you remember that was the same name as the second founding chapter. kind of puts a new light on their disaperance. I wouldn't read too much into it. We're Wolves, Space Marines and warriors who've fought together for a while are brothers. Wolf-Brother. Brother Broken Knife
I thought the Wolf Brothers were 'supposed' to be a 2nd founding chapter that vanished into a web way portal - a version of teh 13th disappearance story? Vassakov
I thought the Wolf Brothers were 'supposed' to be a 2nd founding chapter that vanished into a web way portal - a version of teh 13th disappearance story? Gah... at this rate we're going to have as many conspiracys as the dress wearing ones. Then they'd have nothing to make them special. Durfast Spiritwolf
I thought the Wolf Brothers were 'supposed' to be a 2nd founding chapter that vanished into a web way portal - a version of teh 13th disappearance story? C:SW ed 2 gives the title "wolf brothers" to a Fenrisian clan's/tribe's pack of young warriors who would be at the forefront of battle and from whom aspirants would normally be selected by Wolf Priests. Wolf Brothers was also the title taken by members of Russ's original warband on Fenris and one the survivors kept to use amongst themselves when they became the cadre of the 13th Great Company. This title was also then used for the SW's ill-fated 2nd Founding successor chapter. kanaellars
I would rate the story a 9 out of 10 as well. It was brilliant, shows the wolves in a very positive light, and the last 2 pages had a great and VERY wolf twist.
