Custodian Athiair
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! some people really get on my nerves these people are those who paint Grey Knights any colour apart from silver eg. a GD entry in Chicago last year had a Grey Knight grand Master in RED!!!!!!! red Grey Knights are meant to be silver becuase that silver is the ceramite with no paint on it is to show they are pure so why do people paint them other colours and even in the Deamonhunters codex there is a Grey Knight terminator in red looking like a b****y Khorne Lord with skulls everywhere what happened to pure and devoute? and even the Inquisitors on the same page (page 48) are in red looking chaotic with skulls and evil expressions i have nothing about -][- being red but looking chaotic is taking it too far sorry i just had to get this out of my system Athiair ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165301-armour-rant/ Share on other sites
Lungboy
There have been quite a few colours for GK over the years before the current boltgun with blue wash. All that the fluff currently says is that the armour arrives unpainted, which would probably mean it was actually codex grey rather than boltgun. Plus there's always the whole "it's their models so they can paint them however they want and fluff nazis should stay out of it" argument. Uncle Mel
yes, why don't we let everyone agree for themselves how to paint their mini's, shall we? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165301-armour-rant/#findComment-1945225 Share on other sites
DarKHaZZ13
while i do think "its their mini and so they can paint it how they like" at the same time i don't I do like the fluff and there are only one set of GK's unlike the space machines who can be numerous different chapters and colours the GK's are a single entity and therefore should be painted appropriatly so go ahed paint them any colour but fluff will always slap you in the face afterwards Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165301-armour-rant/#findComment-1945235 Share on other sites
blood_raven_240
but fluff will always slap you in the face afterwards I think you mean 'Fluff Nazis' or some similar term to describe those who are hard-core followers of Warhammer 40,000 Fluff. Painting Grey Knight Armour in a Red Colour, or in fact in any other colour, is a perfectly fine display of the imagination and creativity of the painter. Captain Lucas Raziel
if you paint them red, they're not GREY knights are they? they're red knights. at least silver is a metallic grey. red just makes no sense! We could paddle through this argument all day, but quite frankly, I can think of better ways to spend my time. If you want to slate people for being creative, individual and imaginative, then go ahead. Just don't expect any brownie points for it, from those who understand artistic expression and expansive creativity. Captain Lucas Raziel
i'm not being a fluff nazi, i don't care if they paint them differently. what i'm saying, is if they are called grey knights, why paint them red. red makes no sense. like Lungboys dread, thats fine, it has little red which works, but fully red. i dunno.... Scott-S6
The current fluff doesn't say silver - it say unpainted. What colour is bare ceramite? And, as has been mentioned, there have been several colours for grey knights over the years. Some of the earliest fluff (in the space hulk expansions) says that they wear gold armour. Bearing in mind how little is documented about the knights, who says that some detachments don't wear special colours? Kadaeux
Hey so long as they're painted i'm happy. Its the people who bring unpainted, half-assembled or outright proxied by cardboard boxes and cassete tapes that get my beard in a knot! Codex grey isn't it? One would assume so, or maybe a more tan colour than a grey. After all Ceramite is a Metal and Ceramic composite of some sort, probably something like reinforced concrete (though bucket-loads more complex) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165301-armour-rant/#findComment-1945279 Share on other sites
Battle Captin Torodin
tbh this argument is pathetic, at the end of the day its a game and people play it to have fun, if you are one of these people that get so wound up about other peoples painting then your doing the wrong hobby and shouldnt be playing with other gamers because you will make yourself angery and potentialy upset your oponant who has happened to paint something a different colour to you. my grey knights arnt silver, admittedly their not red either but it makes no diference please be mature enough to realise that people are people and if they want to paint their 'grey' knights pink with yellow spots then they will and i say let them if they like what they have done and are happy who are you to say otherwise Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165301-armour-rant/#findComment-1945384 Share on other sites
Prathios
As a fluff Nazi the only thing I would say is that if you paint them anything other than silver/red/white/gold you're painting the wrong army. The Orks, Nids, Marines, Gaurd, WH, and Necrons all have basis for why you can paint them any dang way you want and nobody can argue it with you. The GK have one paint scheme and if you don't adhere to it, they aren't GK. Its not being strict or mean or anything, its just you picked on of the only codices that don't leave room for creative original paint schemes that still fit the fluff. Doesn't make sense to me, after all why play the game if the fluff means nothing to you. I love many of the original chapters I've seen, heck I even love the Stars of Dorn with their American Flag paint scheme which totally flies in the face of fluff but the game allows for original chapters. Painting Grey knights however you want seems like spitting in the face of the team you're playing. lastadventurer
Such a discussion begs the question of what "fluff" is and what has been redecided by GW. Back in the Second Edition, Grey Knights were not the colors that they are today. As I and many other grizzled vets recall, back in the Second Edition, the Grey Knights base color was black, with added different colored trim. The current - or should I say "new" fluffy color scheme didn't come into vogue until the Third Edition. Placing that aside, I'd have to say there are plenty of reasons - fluffy or otherwise - to paint your Grey Knights a different color than the standard Third through Fifth Edition color scheme. But perhaps the most important reason is that they are each individual's distinct minis, and as such, one should paint them as they see fit to exercise their own creative talents! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165301-armour-rant/#findComment-1945644 Share on other sites
Dilgar
Right on!!! In addtion I also demand the following to be done: In every game u demand everyone else to always loose cause u are "playing" the greatest warriors in the 40k universe. I mean this is according to the fluff, so u must do this if u are to remain true to the colour scheme fluff! And this is not some "selective"-fluff, that is of a personal matter but it still needs to be spilled for everyone else... ...And ofcourse u shouldn´t touch the figures (armour) anymore then just to glue em, unpainted is unpainted, no exceptions!!! Lastly, u must also ofcourse do the rituals of Detestation for every GK model u have cause this is done according to the fluff!!! Unbelievable amount of sarcasm if someone missed:pinch: -sry couldn´t, "not comment", althought this is not what I call a great discussion. Actually in the 4th ed C:CSM the Daemon Prince Perlictor and his CSM cohorts had beaten the Grey Knights once. :D I'm more than a little puzzled why someone would want to play Grey Knights without them actually being Grey Knights. I mean, on one hand you could have the incorruptible, daemonhunting elite in the form of the Grey Knights. Or, on the other hand, you could have some wannabie pretenders. Why would you ever want the latter? number6
I am ashamed to have not noticed this topic 'til now, and to have let it fester as long as it has. Fellow B&C-ers, the B&C Rules are very explicit: all discussion must be productive and free of rancor. This is doubly true for criticisms. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Pretty simple rule, really. Should be patently obvious that if you want to start a "Rant", you should think twice. Let's not see anything like this ever again, 'K? :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165301-armour-rant/#findComment-1945797 Share on other sites
