Stormshield and Chooser of the slain

Ok i know peeps stated that you don't get an extra attack with it but now i'am a little bit confused. Why you might ask.

1st: of the Chooser grants +1 Attack if the bearer is only wielding 1 Weapon.

2nd: the stormshield is listed as a piece of wargear in the Spacemarine codex so technicly not a weapon.

Can anyone explain where they find the ruling of the no extra attack with stormshield?

Q - Do I get extra attacks while my Rune Priest has a CotS (Chooser of the Slain), Runic Staff, and Storm Shield?

A - No. A Chooser of the Slain allows the Rune Priest to count as having an additional close combat weapon (ie +1 attack). The Runic Staff counts as a Close Combat Weapon. The Storm Shield says that models equipped with it can never claim the +1 attack bonus for being armed with two close combat weapons. While the intent of the wording is probably to say that the Storm Shield is not a Close Combat Weapon, we have to go by the rules as written, not the probable intent. You do not gain +1 attack for a Chooser of the Slain/Runic Staff while equipped with a Storm Shield.

Hope that helps

I am ok with the rules for the storm shield, but this answer brings up another question. Does the rune staff count as a weapon? I never thought it did. Since 2nd ed, that is. The wargear section only says that it counts as a psychic hood. The summary says the same. And in the summary it is not listed under closed combat weapons. I have never seen it covered by a faq. I did not even realise there was doubt about this.

Its a weapon for the use of hands.. but that doesnt matter for this.

Look at the wargear section of the space marine codex. Youll see there that a model equipped with one specificly doesnt get +1A for having two CCWs. Since a CoTS gives you +1A as if you had two CC weapons you cant get the bonus.

See?

I was under that impression for a long time. Apparently they did a minimalist reprint/update of our codex. Not only is the Runic Staff a weapon in that version, it also costs a whopping 25 points. *wince*

25 points?! Øøh... my favorite priest is equipped with a lightning claw and staff anyway. So I do not need it to be a weapon. (The ruling ruling that a cots and a ligthning claw is unfortunate, but is clearer in the most recent codex SM. As for storm shield, it is less clear. I hope the new C:SW will grant a bonus attack for both.)

But what I wanted to ask was: Are both codeci and both costs official?
