Black templars

Since I got made redundant in December, I thought I'd try and make the most of my time, so I've been painting stuff to a good tabletop standard and selling on ebay. I've really got into the painting side of things though, and even though I'm a relative beginner (only been painting a couple of months) I'm pretty pleased how most of my stuff has come out.

Working on a Dark Angels army next.

Sorry to hear about your redundancy dude- hope you got a decent severance out of it.

The models are a good tabletop standard as Night Stalker said. One thing to improve is when you paint thin lines like on the powersword. It really is way too thick to look like crackles of electricity. Your flesh tones in contrast are really very good.

The photos were taken with a decent camera (Canon Ixus 75) in super macro mode with no flash. The lighting is natural (taken in our conservatory) but diffused with a DIY lightbox (bits of thin nylon fabric) but it was taken on a very bright day.

To be honest I can't remember how I did the faces - I've always been terrible at faces, but the new plastic models they're doing are so much easier - much more definition. I think it was something along the lines of Dwarf flesh, tanned flesh and elf flesh in graded highlights with a very light wash of devlan mud (50/50 dm/water) then a careful "well-aimed" wash of badab black into the recesses (eyes, round the nose etc) and a final highlight of elf flesh again.

Yeah lava effects and lightning effects I'm still struggling with a little - need to really fine-line it - especially as I'm looking to do a CSM army with either a Hakanor's Reavers theme or a Night Lords theme!
