Got a new Land Raider a while back, just got around to putting it together.

Or was it a Land Raider Redeemer?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/Gavotte/P1070004.jpg

Orrr possibly a Land Raider Crusader?

Anyways, it's been magnetized for standard 40k games. I'll get a separate LR for apocalypse variants like the Terminus or Cerberus.

Here're how the sponsons and weapons are magnetized as per a youtube video's instruction.

Been several months since I last posted here... Since last time I posted I've moved into an apartment a block away from campus and have a pretty swell daily 40k hobby routine with my roommate in order to finish our respective armies.

Base coated the chassis of my magnetized land raider...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/Gavotte/P1070072.jpg

And magnetized a couple bikes. I didn't read my codex correctly and originally thought that a bike squad could only have 1 special weapon. Boy was I wrong. Now I need another bike or attack bike in order to field this squad with full armament..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/Gavotte/P1070075.jpg

Also, started on a 3rd tactical squad even though my 2nd one still needs work. Venerable dreadnought's parts are all gathered and pretty much ready to be assembled save for GSing, Marshal has had his lightning claws changed to wrist-mounted power swords that count as lightning claws, and all the CC weapons for my magnetized terminators are magnetized. I just need to convert the torsos to make them more BT-worthy before I get to magnetizing THOSE.

Also, I'm running out of BT bitz and my cash pool is severely depleted.

Finally got around to some actual conversions again, and this time it's the dread from before.

The legs are only tacked on for now, since I need to repose and add a crapton of stuff to it to make it more "venerable". Also, the front of the sarcophagus is a bit big, but I guess bigger is better.

To do for this conversion: :cusston of ridges and rivets, add a couple more smoke stacks or extend the existing ones, make the multi-melta from a AOBR Dread compatable to this, and repose the arms and legs.

I need a tutorial in making tattered flags out of GS.

Go Go Double post...

Tacked a mock-up of the final pose. It should look like it's charging forward swinging its fist back to kill you. Sorry about the crappy picture quality. I only have my camera phone available right now.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/Gavotte/0905090010a.jpg

Since the last photo I added some trims, shortened the little "carriage" of the sarcophagus, and reposed the knee-joint of one of the legs to make it look like its running at its target.

I was supposed to finish the legs today (the knee's been reposed), but as luck would have it, epoxy putty doesn't hold up weight very well on the hip joint. I'm going to have to wait till I can pin it down.

Also, I'm still trying to figure out how to repose the arms. Contemplating Magnets, as always.

Some better photos. Also, as said above, pulled the head out of the socket and added a bunch of rivets. Finished the vanilla legs, nibs to keep the arms in place, and the torso. Now to add a metric ton of BT iconography and fill in some gaps.

Finally got around to doing a test of the terminator conversion that I've been meaning to do to my to-be-fully-magnetized terminators. (3 of them are already configured to have standard torsos)

This was my first try at it so it turned out pretty miserably because I cut off a little too much here and a little too much there, so a lot of GS reconstruction was needed. I've already magnetized this one even though in this picture it's arms are held together by tack.

I can't figure out how I'm supposed to attach the little shield that comes with the terminators. Does it go on the shoulderpads or the torso?

Also, I'm severely short on Crux shoulder pads and buying them from bitz online stores would cost a fortune so I'm going to end up being forced to use some of the shoulder pads that are meant to be on the opposite side of the crux.

The weird GS formations are going to be filed down once it completely cures.

New Terminator. I need to put my other projects on hold till I finish my terminators because of the tournament on Saturday. Goal is for me to have at least 7 fully assembled ones by then. It's also on my first WIP custom base. I misplaced my modelling sand, flock, static grass during the move to my University dwelling... This one turned out better than the first because I was actually paying attention to where I cut.

Also, added some iconography to the arms and legs for the dreadnought and filled in the gaps for the arms. Was working on a tabard, but because of my inexperience with GS, didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. So I scrapped it till I can learn how to use it properly.

Some (slightly outdated by a couple days) progress on the magnetized Land Raider from earlier.

Also, got some 2 part crackle varnish a couple weeks ago and I've applied that. Here's the result.

It looks a bit orange in this picture because of terrible lighting, but this is basically the effect that I've been looking for for a long time now. Now what the hell can I do with these 8 fl.oz. wood-pattern crackle mediums?

It looks a tad bit too shiny for my tastes so I might put on a satin/matte varnish on it.

At this point, I've got practically the entire main body finished save for the "headlights" and "turn-signals" as well as the targeting lenses in the sponsons. Photos of the entire side later.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've had a lot of work lately but I finally managed to get around to finish painting one of the torsos on my magnetized terminators.. I just need to apply a matte varnish on the tabbard because the new washes leave a satin finish..... I used black gesso to prime as an experiment on this, but it came out just as well as any model that I've sprayed. Gesso also saves me the hassle of having to set up a little spraying station on my back porch as well as the consequences of bad weather, even if it takes a little longer to dry and can make a mess. I've also finished painting the base from earlier, but my basing kit is still at home so it isn't quite finished yet.

The arms aren't painted because I plan on doing some more conversions on them involving templar crosses.

Apologies on the unfocused photos. My camera was dying. I'll upload some better ones tomorrow.

@titan136

Thanks for the inspiration. Really. Your Templars are some of the best that I've seen ever.

Hey, I'm loving some of the models and techniques you're using. I'm slowly starting to do a little converting myself, but nothing to your standard, but I may be 'borrowing' some of your techniques.

I'm looking forward to an update in your marshal, he hasn't been around for a while. The only comment I'd have on him is that his thighs look a little puny. I don't know why because you have a normal torso and are not true-scaling him, but for some reason his thigh circumference seems a little small.

I really love the dreadnought, I think it is one of the most animated I've seen.

The crackle on the land raider looks superb!

Keep it up!

Very nice Dreadnought, in fact, everything looks great!

Just a little tip though, if you haven't glued the Dreadnought to the base, move it towards the back, for two reasons;

First is the practical reason, it'll stablise the model.

Second, moving it to the back of the base creates a far greater sense of movement.

Good luck with the rest of the army.

Thanks for the compliments and tips, everyone! I'm on Hiatus for the marshal as I simply don't have the time to work on him right now. Slowly painting some models is the best I can do because of classes and a number of different things going on. However, once things clear up, you can be sure he'll be the first on my list to finish.

Tonight I finished the storm shield arm and based out the thunder hammer arm.

Used some jeweler's chain for the shield and painted over it. Raw jeweler's chain is just way too reflective.

I don't really like how the gold came out in some parts of the shield so I'll probably go back and rework those.
