Uncle Mel
I want to ask the more grizzled GK players here a question about their heavy support choices. I consider myself pretty experienced, playing for 10 years and having played GK since their release. currently employing the water warrior strategy. i always advice people to use either raiders or dreads and not a mixture. i myself run three raiders or two dreads in smaller games but not one raider and a dread. i would like your oppinion and more importantly your experience on this matter because i see more and more lists with a combi. thanks in advance for the wisdom. mel Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165547-more-vs-many/ Share on other sites
Krieghammer
I have recently tried to play with 2 dreads w. twLas and Incinerator, and a Land Raider Crusader for my one squad of terminators! I think this combo is very versatile, as your dreads can deal with vehicles at both longrange and CC, and still be able to tie up infantry. My crusader transports the Grand master + Retinue to the heat of the battle and the hurricane bolters shred enemy infantry. Multimelta on the Crusader is very usefull too, as you often tend to get close to enemy Armour with it, (oh why is it not twin linked..) and you can just machine spirit away one shot each turn with it at a vehicle or soften up a MC! thats what i have been doing lately  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165547-more-vs-many/#findComment-1948205 Share on other sites
Gaz1858
Three dreads with TLL and DCCW with EA and Smoke. 138 points per model and well worth it IMO. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165547-more-vs-many/#findComment-1948223 Share on other sites
number6
I have to admit I've never mixed and matched raiders and dreads. If I'm taking dreads, I usually take a pair, then Seraphim, an Inquisitor, an Assassin, and as many PAGKs as I can field. These are some of my favorite units in the game! Only once in a great while do I field 3 dreads, but that always comes at the expense of one of those aforementioned units. ;) If I'm taking raiders, it's all I can do just to pay for a pair of them and still field enough GKs to make the list work in my playstyle. No room for anything else, not dreads, not Seraphim, ... not anything. In theory, I would think that mixing and matching would work fine, but you should probably fill all three heavy slots and take either 2 dreads + 1 raider or 2 raiders + 1 dread. This will give your heavy choices some redundancy/resilience. Uncle Mel
I always fear that taking only one dread is signing my own death warrant because it becomes a fire magnet, taking two would mean my opponent would either have to split his fire or ignore one, tripling the chances one survives a heavy round of shooting. any other opinions about mixing and matching?
