Two handed weapons

Recommended Posts

We were doing this apocalypse game the other day at my LGS and the deciever was assaulting my captain on a bike with relic blade and storm shield. According to one of my opponents I cannot use the storm shield in close combat since I already had a relic blade. His reasoning was that since I had a two handed weapon I couldn't use the storm shield that happened to take up a hand. Personally I think this is a load of BS. After scouring the rulebook and my codex several times I failed to find any rule that says I couldn't use it. He quoted no specific rule and only said "It doesn't make sense". Did I miss something or was he mistaken?

I believe it was stated in a FAQ that you can use a Relic Blade and Storm Shield. There is no longer a 1h / 2h weapon classification.

Though if you are talking about the Deceiver (C'Tan) the Storm Shield would not matter, as I believe that the C'tan attacks in CC do not allow any form of save what so ever, including Invuln saves.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I am still new here.

that is true, it is because of its necrodermis which can form spikes and blades which in turn ignore inv. saves.

Searchy is your friend, as there are threads about this (nearly the same title even!) here, here, and here. It's also referenced (the defunct two-handedness idea) here and here.

Long story short, tell that opponent to start playing 5th edition, where there is no more "one-handed" or "two-handed" nonsense in the space marine codex, or even in the main rules. However, he was right in saying that you don't get the benefits anyway because it is a C'tan, and they ignore all saves (other than cover), same as a Callidus assassin.

Indeed, though as a side note the Callidus assassins actualy does not ignore a C'Tans save, and the C'tan will eat the callidus's blade dissarming the assasin. That actualy happens to anyone with a C'tan phase sword/knife that attacks an actual Ctan, though I can't for the life of me think who else has one.

It could have been the nightbringer but I am not sure (Bad memory, I do remember he had both and my captain was charged by one of them) thanks. I will have to have words with this guy ^_^ .
