Dark Angels Go Apocalyptic Down Under (pt 1)

Played a massive apocalypse size game of 40k last weekend. 30,000 pts per side Chaos verses Marines. The brief to all players was bring everything you've got. Thought Id share the highlights with the B&C community.

On the forces of order stood my Battle company, Chapter command, Ravenwing command, Deathwing command, a large contingent of scouts and a sizable chunk of the Ironwing. Dayman added the rest of the Deathwing company no less, some Grey Knights, a Dreadnought or five, a Fellblade and a Reaver titan to boot. Allied to the angels of darkness were Kantor's Crimson Fist detachment that included numerous Landraiders, termies bikes and few drop podding dreds, commanded by Mike.

The forces of disorder were spearheaded by Gaz's traitor guard tank company that was led by no less than three Baneblade variant super heavy tanks and included numerous nasty Leman Russ tanks of various marine swatting builds supported by a couple of hundred meat shields with flashlights all wearing carapace armor. Dan commanded Abaddon's mighty host of traitor marines, dreds, vindicators, predators, berserkers etc. Alongside Dan's force was Rick's legion of traitor marines also. Between the two of them they fielded just about everything in the chaos arsenal, including a massive host of deamons and greater deamons who were led by the uber nasty forge world bloodthirster. Finally Kane added his silent and deadly Necron force led by the Nightbringer himself.

Much fun was had and much carnage was enacted on each side. Who won? Who knows? In my, biased, opinion the Dark Angels had the upper hand by the end of the game after the Deathwing made a timely intervention, but my opponents would probably disagree since the traitors still had tons of killy power by games closing turn. Indeed, each team's turns saw massive casualties inflicted on their enemies only to be refilled by reinforcements in the following turn (it reminded me of a RTS game played on difficult where each side respawns at an alarming rate). It doesn't really matter who won anyway, since we all had so much fun and were a little lax with some of the rules by the end of the night. The game ended appropriately apocalyptically, in the wee hours of the morning, with the Chaos Titan going nuclear and taking out a quarter of the battlefield with it. Thanks guys for a deliriously entertaining weekend.

Check out the pics below for the games highlights.

Dayman's Reaver Titan has the Chaos monstrosity (or is that Gaz?) in its sights.

For that matter what manner of debauchery is Gaz performing on that Titan?... His blood must certainly be up with the musky scent of Slaanesh.

Gaz, being the formidable tank commander that he is, positions his cannon fodder in a nice meat shield, in a more sober moment.

From left to right:

Maniacal Chaos Warlord Rick (father of silver cardboard toddler... he made it himself).

Dan the demonic (AKA Abaddon's favored son).

General Gaz. The ruthless and indomitable Imperial Guard tank commander. Also, the host of the evenings madness.

Deathwing Grand Master Dayman (he brought his baby Reaver to the fray too).

Kane, Lord of the eternally durable Necrons.

Chapter Master Mike, Pedro Kantor's poster boy.

A birds eye view of the battlefield.

Damnable beardy Necrons shuffle towards their foe... Why don't they stay down and dead like they are supposed too?... Seriously, nice army Kane love the water effects on the bases.

Rick unleashes his baby upon the battle... and manages to destroy the games central objective, along with a rhino or two and a dreadnought or three, using his vortex missile pie plate of death.

Wow! Beauty of a game mate. I would have loved to be a part or even watch of a game like that. One question, Who is that little fella in the picture under the heading of the forces of order right beside the Baneblade?

Again, brilliant battle and some great picture mate.
