Def Koptas turbo boosting on scout move?

We ran into a rules problem in a game last night:

On the scout move the Def Koptas turbo boosted to get extra movement. So the first question here is, can they turbo boost on a scout move since scout move says "normal" movement?

Second part of the question: the Def Koptas then moved again in their first turn movement phase and shot at and assaulted a squad. So if Def Koptas can turbo boost on the scout move, can they still shoot and assault on turn 1?

yes and yes. the scout move occurs BEFORE turn 1. turbo-boosting in the scout move followed by move shoot assault in turn 1 is analogous to doing the same in turns 1 and 2 instead. nothing prevents this. just remember that a scout move may not bring the scout within 12" of an enemy.

FWIW: this was FAQed in 4th - I haven't seen anything that would change it.

As mentioned by nighthawks this is permissible. They just need to stay 12" away from your deployed units during the scout move - though I can't recall if they can pass within 12" during the turboboosted, jetbike scout move, or just end their movement more than 12" away. Since the scout move occurs before Turn 1 the effects of turboboosting disappear and they're TL Rokkiting and assaulting your rear-line units and vehicles with Buzzsaws immediately.

Turbo Boost:

they may turbo boost in the movement phase

Scouts:

but before the first turn is played

Thats pretty clear to me, you cannot turbo boost before the first movement phase takes place. Like a psychic power, its limited to when its allowed to be activated.

Also to the query about 12" distance, the word "remain" is quite clear is "remain 12 inches away". Meaning you cannot come within 12: at any given moment. It would and must state ending move beyond (like 1" distance rule) ignoring intervening models/terrain/rules (like jump packs and skimmers).

Hope that helps.

Wether a Deffkopta can turboboost during its Scout move or not, is not whats up for discussion.

Actually steelmage - that is exactly what is questioned.

but before the player begins his first turn, any scouts may make a normal move. This is done exactly as in their Movement Phase, except that during this move Scouts must remain more that 12" away from any enemy

This says yes as the move is exactly like a normal movement phase but with a restriction. The FAQ says yes etc.

I don't see how it could be mistaken personally.

Whoops.

I just didn't think anybody would ask a question that is readily answered in the rulebook FAQ.

Not everyone has access to it... unfortunately. :\

Thats why I print it out, i've probally said this before somewhere else (or many somewheres <_<) but if you have the ruling in black and white then there is nothing to argue over...

Its not an offical house rule, but at the group I normally play at, if you do not have the rules in black and white, you cannot use them.

There are exceptions, for the most part we are fairly relaxed, we just don't want people to get in the habit of 'forgetting' their codex.
