Gyson_Vore
I'm not sure if this question has ever been asked, but I was wondering if there was any referance as to the way the Space Wolves would send the bodies of their fallen heros to the Halls of Russ. Would they do the traditional Viking funeral, or would they return the body to a tomb in the Fang? I've read some of the Ragnar books from Black Library, but I can't remember if they mentioned it or not. Durfast Spiritwolf
According to the Ragnar series, the bodies are burnt in communal funeral pyres once the gene seed has been harvested. Dark Bjoern
In our 2nd Ed. codex there is a short story about a fight between Ragnar´s GC and Tyranids. At the end of it they discripted the funeral rites for the fallen Brothers. they´re very similar to the viking ones. Combat_Vet
The old white dwarf articles about Ragnar also talked about funeral pyres. I could be wrong though, it might have been the 2nd edition dex. Max_Dammit
I think that wolflords priests and maybe wolfguards will be taken back to the fang, BC, GH and fangs are burned in a big pyres Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165768-space-wolves-dead/#findComment-1951700 Share on other sites
stinkenheim
iirc there was a short story in one of the black library book where the wolf lods drop pod had cme down and been swamped by orks who promptly killed him and took his body. long story short, some scouts found the rks that had the body killed them, and then left the lords body atop a table with weapons of the enemies piled around and called down a bombardment to level the mountain... so from most stories it looks like they favour the old funeral pyres... stinkenheim
You planning on burning/melting a fallen hero? Maybe gather all your other HQs and WG around as you do it, to say set an example... humm WG Vrox i think its just GW using parts of norse culture to more closely tie space wolves to the viking theme... dont see it as a bad thing to burn the bodies of the chapters heroes atop a mound the enemies weapons and such.... more a way of helping them take their sagas into the next life... nothing ruins the reunion of fallen space wolves in the halls of russ than for the newly arrived to go, 'me, i died killing a hundred ork nobs and 3 warbosses in single combat armed only with the bottle opener attatchment on my standard issue swiss army knife :tu:' and have the other (dead) wolves go, 'oh right, its just, ya know, we dont see anything that kinda backs you up here... not calling you a liar but its a pretty tall story... you sure you didnt just get into the garbage again and choke on a chicken bone??' stinkenheim
or if we are desperate and i mean really desperate we could try using our ale as a makeshift molotv cocktail... although things would have to be bad for us to waste even a drop outside of a bar room brawl...
