My brother's Death Guard

Hi all.

Right, here are a couple of pics of my brother's Death Guard. We both LOVE Nurgle, and I think he's done a good job on the Marines so far. Unfortunately the pics turned out rather bad, plus the flash makes some of the colours look strange. Hope the general look isn't ruined.

By the way, one of the Marines has Pre Heresy shoulderpads (Green and what once used to be white), plus another has a hand-sculpted Nurgling on his power pack, which I think turned out great.

Looking forward to hearing comments :)

Yes, I guess that there'll be more...at some stage in the near or far future. Unfortunately, my brother's a slow painter - it took him about half a year just to do these seven dudes, and over a week to do the Nurgling. Should there be more, I'll post, of course :)

Another Update!

My bro decided to paint the Lord immediately, and here are the amazing results :ermm: May I note that this Lord was done from the Chaos Lord sprue, plus a Chaos Warrior helemt and termie spikes. I guess he is 30-40% Green Stuff :wub:

He's not entirely finished; the weapon needs painting, and the base hasn't been made yet. My brother's planning on using the standard base, nurglifying it, then adding a Nurgling as the Lord's pet.

Anyways, here's the pics. My brother would like to hear some comments, in order to find any mistakes he's made and to improve (!) his skills. So we'd really like your opinions :yes:

I think they're pretty amazing. Lots of great green stuff work, brilliant colour choices and just a ton of character.

What colours are being used for the shoulder pads? I've got a few nurgle marines upcoming and would like to pinch :(.

As I like to say to new Nurgle players: "You make me sick!"

If you want a suggestion, I would add a little bit more to the lord's head. I think that you were going for the simple, almost bald look, but it needs a little something. A few coats of brown was could do the trick (maybe pouring of of the face?). Or you could model a nurgle symbol on the forehead.

Then again, it looks REALLY amazing the way it is. I especially like the pose of the marine with the chainsword!

Nice work,especially on the lord.on the marine with the gas mask,did you take that from a steel legion sprue or did it come with the model? pardon if it's a stupid question,not familiar with csm but planning on building a nurgle army one of these days.

Edit:silly me,just looked it up :thanks:

Thanx for the comments guys!

@Eberious:

When I saw the Lord I told my brother much the same thing: "Looking at the belly and shoulder pad of your Lord makes me wanna throw up..." My brother's answer was: "Good. That's the point." :o

@Brother Amarel:

Thanks :) The shoulder pads on most of the marines were done the same colours as the rest of the marine - a mixture of greens, browns and greys (Codex Grey, Bubonic Brown, Catachan Green, Snakebite Leather to name but a few), but I can't tell you the mixture rato since it's different with every marine - my brother just does it by feeling. A couple of marines (including the Lord) are sporting ancient Pre-Horus-Heresy green-and-white shoulder pads; the white was mostly done using a basecoat of some dull brown (for example graveyard earth) and then highlighting to bleached bone, with maybe a tiny pinch of skull white added to the mixture of the last layer. The Green is, mostly, Catachan Green, with diverse other greys and browns added to get that dull look.

@Nias Wolf:

That was my first criticism of the model too: the helmet's too clean and too bare. My suggestion was to add three tiny red dots on the forehead forming the symbol of Nurgle. But after a short while we both concluded that the helmet looks really good as it is, since it is an interesting contrast to the rest of the completely corroded and rotted model. We'll see, maybe my brother'll change his mind...the Lord isn't 100% finished yet anyways.

@Captain Morgan:

The "Gas-mask" marine is a standard Plague marine from the plague marine box. But the idea of using Steel Legion (or other Gas-masked heads) is a good one :) Although, logically, it would be pretty senseless for the Death Guard to be wearing Gas masks, since they ARE disease incorporated, and thereby don't need the masks. But then, Gas masks always look cool ;)

Thanks for the comments guys!

Hello! Another small update:

Firstly, my brother now has joined Bolter and Chainsword as Danji90.

Secondly, he's been working his Lord a bit. Here's a couple o pics of the base; so far it features an unfinished Nurgling with fly head sitting in some wort of goo, a small (unfinished) rock, and a dead mutilated lackey of the false Emperor. He still can't decide whether to let the lackey be a Black Templar (in order to insult his best friend's Templar Army) or an Ultrasmurf (coz he HATES them).

Whatcha think? Bear in mind that so far it's all unfinished and will look a bit different when it is.

Whaddaya think?

There's more marines on the way, with FW Death Guard termies and a dread, but I guess they'll take a while.

Further marine:

By the way, this Death Guard army you see here performed sickly admirably in a 4,000-point game today, as part of a larger force of heretics. They only lost 3 marines in the entire game, one of which kiled himself with the plasma gun (idiot, didn't deserve to serve the Plague God anyway). all the while they battled black templar tactical and scout squads, and the Chaos Lord (used as a sorcerer) took apart the Emperor's Champion.

Another marine with flamer's coming along, and after that one the Forge World Death Guard Termies will be taken on.

What do you think?

Thanx for the comments guys! Always really appreciate it! ;)

@Capt. Lysander:

Hail, fellow Son of Dorn! I also do Imperial Fists (Linky) ;) Yes, the models are hideously filthy and sick, particularly that rather obscene shoulder pad. I perosnally like it, but I do also like rather plain Plague marines with less rot and more cracked armour, for example. Hoping my brother'll also do some of those :)

@firestorm40k:

Thanx :) Good luck with your Death Guard! Hey, why not drop by a link when you've got some pics? Would be intrigued...

@LuNCHBIZZLe:

Thanx for your advice with the guitar string ;)

Anyways, small update - the WIP plague marine with flamer, so far with only the first three layers of paint on the armour done:
