Rezil
So I'm going up against my friend who plays Chaos in a 1500pts battle. Now my mate likes to play shooty (His army are modelled after Iron Warriors) He tends to have 2xVindicators A couple of squads in Rhino's (Each with at least a las cannon) His Lord & retinue and a think it's a squad of havoks (not entirley sure, trying to go off of memory) I'm finding that his Vindicators tend to beast me. I will plug away at them with my land raider and long fangs (Sometimes I get em before they cause serious damage and sometimes not) But if they get to advance far enough they always decimate my troops and are very hazardous to my land raider, meanwhile he sits his army at the back with his multiple heavy weapons and shoots the crap outta me with them too. My problem is I can't advance as the vidicators wreck my troops, also i'm wondering wether to get rid of my drednought as he always gets targeted and wasted within the first round or two trying to move up field. When I do manage to get within striking range with ym army, his troops I can usually take care of, but his lord will usually run rampant, often annihialting my lord and retinue by himself (Damn chaos lords are hard, I don't like demon weapons!) So I have provided my army list (Not sure if it's correct as some of the rules I was a little unsure of) in the hopes that someone could suggest a new army setup or tactic that I could try to waste his Chaos force. I'm a fairly amateur player so I apologise if my information provided isn't amazing. Cheers Rez. :D Lord Rune Priest: 150 Terminater armour Combi-plasma Runic Weapon Elites Venerable dreadnought: 155 Power Claw Assault cannon Wolf Guard Body Guard 5 x wolf guard terminators :260 3 x lightning claws 2 x thunder hammers 2 x storm shields Heavy Support Long Fangs 5 x Long fang pack: 244 1x heavy bolter 1x plasma cannon 1x lascannon 1x multimelta Land Raider: 250 Troops Grey Hunters Wolf Guard Pack leader: 55 Runic armour Power fist Plasma pistol 9 x grey hunters : 193 2 x power axe 1 x plasma pistol 1 x melta gun Blood Claws Wolf Guard Pack leader: 40 Runic armour Frost Blade Plasma Pistol 9x blood claws : 146 1 x power sword 1 x power fist Total = 1493 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165904-help-against-chaos-armour/ Share on other sites

Durfast Spiritwolf
and some Wolf Scouts with a meltagun and plasma pistols - turn up on his baseline and blast his rear armour on the same turn... Krave
I second what has been said about the scouts-give them a power weapon as well though in case they show up late and the tanks are dead. Then you can have them tie up the havoks for a couple of turns. Alternatively, a couple of land speeders with MM are pretty decent against armour, and decently cheap. Just remember to get them within 12" so that you can roll the 2D6 for armour penetration; if his vindi's aren't in cover then they should go smash pretty fast. WRT to your troops/army list, Wolf Guard Pack Leaders cannot take runic armour OR frostblades. Runic armour is wasted on them anyway, they are part of the squad and can't get targeted. I don't give mine plasma pistols because of the danger of overheat, if you really want them, put them in the squad. I would rather you put your troops in rhinos or drop pods though, it gives them more speed to get across the table so they won't be shot up so bad. Also, I am counting a RP in termie armour+5 termie WG, which is 12 models for the purposes of fitting into a landraider, which only holds 10. Drop one of the lightning claw termies to make up the difference, and put smoke and extra armour on your ven dread; pop the smoke the first turn he breaks cover and he will live slightly longer. Your Rune Priest is a bit overpriced, a frost blade is cheaper and better, and if you give him a Chooser of the Slain he should get an extra attack with it to boot. For the long fangs, you seem to have just the models from the boxed set. When you have a chance in the future, get some more heavy weapons so that you can put the HB and MM on the shelf; a LF squad should stick to one general 'type' of weapon, eg, ml/lc or ml/hb, etc. When all 4 are different it is hard to get the best out of the pack; split fire only goes so far. Some more 48" AT wpns would really help in nailing the vindicators. While it is on my mind, remember that if you assault them, you hits are resolved on their rear armour of 10, so if a powerfist gets in striking range, it too can do some real damage. Just remember not to be standing in front of his entire army when the vindicator has been smoked or you will get shot to death. WG Vrox
I would go WS, however a different delivery method thatn OBEL, Put them in a LS Storm w/mm, 4 WS 2PP/MG Give them all MB and make use of the LSS's scout move tom get close enough that if you get turn 1 you will be hitting, possibly from the side, with a MM, 1 MG, 2 PP and then since it's open top possibly assulting 8"with the MB. Expensive but a very verisital unit that can be used for outflanking if you don't get turn 1. Grey Mage
Two attackbikes with meltaguns... the vindicators advance, or stay still... you move them up low and behind *but not in* cover and then nukem. Another option is a landspeeder or two with twin multimeltas if you play with larger terrain. Max_Dammit
You got to much expensive stuff and that makes for easy targets, better to swamp him with cheaper targets so his shots cost you less A raider, termys, longfangs AND a dread in a 1500 pt list is very expensive and gives you 2 troop choices, troops win the 5th ED game. 1 tank so all his anti tank goes that way or your dread leaving you slow and exposed I like using 2 rino's and 2 tanks so he has to make his choice, do i want those tanks shooting me for the next turns or do i want his troops in my line. Put in the scouts to make him move away from the board edge, using your tanks to shield your troop transport. Sure its fun to have all the expensive stuff, but it doesnt work.
