theredcorsair
Ok here's what I understand the rules as. On a roll of 6, rending weapons countas a power weapon and add vehicular penetration abilities. I'm feeling as if this is wrong, please tell me if it is. Bran Scalphunter
Basically, on a 6 to Wound in Shooting, a Rending Weapon auto-wounds (so a S1 Rending Weapon could hurt a T10 critter) and counts as AP2. Against armored targets, it adds a further d3 to the AP roll. A Assault cannon, for example, can have a potential AP of 15 (6 Weapon strength + 6 roll +3 from Rending). In close combat it auto-wounds and counts as a power weapon, with the same thing against armor. Legatus
In 4th Edition the effect happened for every attack roll or to hit roll of 6, but that was changed with 5th Edition. Now rending weapons hit as normal, and if any of the to-wound rolls is a 6, that roll will wound automatically and ignore armour. Against vehicles it is the armour penetration roll. theredcorsair
But a 6 always wounds. So if it gets a 6 it will be ap2. Is that right? I think it is. Legatus
See Rulebook page 31 for rending ranged weapons and page 42 for close combat weapons. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165944-confusion-with-rending/#findComment-1954580 Share on other sites

Steelmage99
But a 6 always wounds. Uhm...you need to be carefull with that assumption. Some Wraithlords and Carnifexes might disagree. theredcorsair
Oh, point. But most weapons with rending can wound all of those. (i.e. only assault cannon) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165944-confusion-with-rending/#findComment-1955926 Share on other sites

Frosty the Pyro
more than just the assult cannon and sniper weapons can rend. A great deal of tyrinid units have rending, as do many deamons, and shrikes power claws. Do deamons still have the deamonic instabilty? Nope, fluffy if they had it, but then they just wouldn't be very reliable. Hlakir
But a 6 always wounds. Uhm...you need to be carefull with that assumption. Some Wraithlords and Carnifexes might disagree. With a Rending weapon it's not really an assumption, but a fact. Bran Scalphunter
The first quote is from the OP saying normal 6's always wound- which is not true. With Rending, yes, a 6 always wounds, but that's a special case.
