cleen X
I am at odd here, it looks to me like it is possible to play any characters, like Pedro Kantor and Lysander in any army? Not just an army from there respective chapters? Am I right or wrong? Could my Black Templar army (I only use the BT colours but play with Space Marine Codex armylist) have Pedro Kantor in it? Or Marneus Calgar for that matter! I can't find anything in the codex that says I cannot. General Retreat
Yes, you can. All of the Special Characters were created to both fulfill the fluff of said Chapters, and to act as template Special HQ's that can be used for any and all chapters. The only restriction is that each one is unique in your army, and it's suggested that you rename them. ;) So, the Crimson Fists could use Parneus Kalgar instead of Pedro, but not him and Larneus Dalgar in the same army. Really, I think it was done this way to make sure that Do-It-Yourself Chapters don't get shafted by not having access to Special Characters. Grendelsbane
I thought that you could only use the special characters in the space marine codex with the "vanilla" chapters. That you couldn't mix them if the other chapter had its own codex. nurglez
You cant mix them if you take an army using another codex. This is not what the OP is suggesting. If you run a deathguard army using the latest space marine codex, you could take which ever special char you want and just change the name, same goes for any of the space marine armies, as long as you are only using the space marine codex. pwrserge
While technicaly legal... I will stick to my guns and say that it makes playing a named chapter completely useless. Why should I play ultramarines, when I can play their sucessor chapter the Ubermarines, get all the special rules for fielding an ultramarine army and then make them a space wolf sucessor when the latest and by deffinition most broken power armor codex comes out? I reserve the right to mock anybody who blatantly poaches other people's charachters that way. Not to say that sucessor chapters are not cool, but let's face it. The core HQ models leave plenty of room for customizing your characters. (I for one field an unnamed Ultramarines 3rd company captain.) Have some dignity and let special characters be exactly that... Special What was the point of this? @OP- yeah, you can even mix them. You could have an army lead by Lysander and He'stan with Scout Sergeant Telion if you really wanted to but you would only get one of their combat tactics rules.
