13th Co vs SM

So had my first 5th Edition game today versus a SM player:

Clan Bloodmaw:

 

Wolf Lord: LCx2, Belt of Russ, Wolf Pelt, Mark of Wulfen

Rune Priest: Frost Blade, Wolf Pelt, Storm Shield, Wolf Pelt, Chooser of Slain

Wolf Priest: Iron Wolf Amulet, Crozius, Wolf Pelt

 

Storm Claw Pack: Bolt Pistol/CCW x3 Plasma Pistol/CCW x2, Power Fist/Bolt Pistol x2, Wolf Guard Pack Leader: Power Weapon, Plasma Pistol, Wolf Pelt, Mark of the Wulfen

 

Grey Slayers: Melta gun x2, Bolter/CCW x7, Wolf Guard Pack Leader: Power Fist/Bolter, Mark of Wulfen, Wolf Pelt

Grey Slayers: Melta gun x2, Bolter/CCW x7, Wolf Guard Pack Leader: Power Fist/Bolter, Mark of Wulfen, Wolf Pelt

Pedro Kantor running with a terminator squad

 

Sternguard Veteran Squad

 

Scout squad with sniper and heavy bolter

 

Tactical Squad x10

 

Tactical Squad x10 but split into two 5 mans

 

One Land Speeder with heavy bolter and typhoon missile launcher

 

Attack bikes x2 with heavy bolters

 

Land Raider Crusader with Chronus and upgraded with multi-melta

 

 

Seize Ground was rolled for mission. One objective ended up right in the middle, two on the left side of the board and one somewhat middle but just outside of his deployment.

 

I decided to go ahead and put everything in reserve to outflank with the exception of bikes and wolves with bikes setting up on far left side and wolves on far right.

 

He spread his deployment out across his table edge with most of it in the middle. He placed his 10man tactical squads to my left in a building, the landraider crusader to the left of middle with one 5man tactical squad inside, pedro and his terminators in the middle, his other 5man tactical and sternguard in ruins on the middle right, and then his speeder and attack bikes on far right. He infiltrated his scouts right into the middle objective located in some rock outcroppings.

 

I took my scout move with my wolves towards the scouts in the middle and then turbo boosted my bikes towards the objective in some ruins on the left. Reread rules about them later and turns out they can't make free scout move. I thought they were only allowed not to flank. Didn't matter come first turn anyway.

 

TURN 1:

 

He moved units onto 2 more objectives claiming a total of three. Tactical squad on left and Land Raider in middle left destroy bikes. I thought 3+ cover would help, I was wrong. Wolves get blasted to hell by 4 units losing all but two.

 

I run the wolves hoping to get them into charge range of scouts but roll a 3. They are out in the open, ouch.

Turn 2:

 

He moves Pedro and his termies up some from the middle to the right to solidify the two objectives there. Wolves get blasted to all a hell, gone.

 

I roll for reserves to outflank, not a single one.

Turn 3:

 

Nothing for him to do. Moves attack bikes towards left side of board to capture last objective.

 

I roll for reserves and get my Wolf Lord and Storm Claws on the board, dice roll puts them on right side. I shoot at Land Speeder and charge. Land Speeder explodes and leaves crater. Lose one Storm Claw in explosion. Out of charge range of 5 man tactical squad and sternguard squad in ruins.

 

Turn 4:

Moves his Land Raider towards objective on left to support his 10 man tactical. He unloads on my Wolf Lord and Storm Claws with another 4-5 squads. Crater gives me cover save, but at end of shooting I am down to Wolf Lord with a wound lost and Wolf Guard Pack Leader.

 

I roll for reserves and get the rest of my army finally. Rune Priest with Grey Slayer melta gun squad comes in on left side of table by one objective in ruins, Plasma gun squad comes in right next to them on left side by other objective being held his 10man tactical squad. Wolf Priest with other Grey Slayer melta gun squad comes in on right side into some cover. I shoot at Land Raider with melta gun squad on left, but fail to damage. I assault 5 man tactical squad in ruins holding one of the objectives with Wolf Lord and WGPL killing them all consolidating in ruins away from Sternguard a bit. On left side, I assault into ruins with melta gun squad and kill 7 while losing 1. He is stubborn so doesn't run.

Turn 5:

 

Moves his Land Raider away from my melt gun squad on right. Moves Pedro with termies and attack bikes into range to fire on my Wolf Lord. Sternguard fire on Wolf Lord, but don't kill him. Pedro and termies fire on Wolf Lord smoking his last two wounds. Attack bikes didn't fire so shoot at melta gun squad in cover on right killing one.

 

I move melta gun squad move out of cover on right, fire two melta guns into Sternguard hoping to knock down their numbers to finish in assault and have them gone as scoring unit. Rune Priest and melta gun squad move to claim left middle objective. No shooting on left side. My plasma gun squad kills his remaining 10man tactical and claims objective he was holding. I try and assault Sternguard squad, but don't get the needed roll for difficult terrain.

 

Will draw if game ends right now, dice roll says we go to turn 6!

 

Turn 6:

 

He moves his Land Raider towards my plasma gun Grey Slayer squad on the left objective. Moves attack bikes back towards left side to try and get there to dispute my melta gun Grey Slayer squad on objective there next turn. Moves Pedro and termies into assault range of Wolf Priest and melta gun Grey Slayer squad on right. Land Raider opens fire on plasma gun squad on left objective in ruins and kills them all except 1 plasma gunner. Pedro, termies, and Sternguard open up on Wolf Priest and Grey Slayer melta gun squad leaving Wolf Priest, two melta gunners, and WGPL. Snipers try and kill Rune Priest squad on left side but all make their saves. Pedro and termies assault Wolf Priest and remaining melta gun squad. Wound on Pedro from Wolf Priest, kills melta gunners in return.

 

I use Gate psychic power and get Rune Priest from left side to about 5 inches from the scouts holding middle objective. Runs to within 3" of objective to contest it. Wolf Priest kills two termies in assault and then gets whacked by Pedro.

 

Dice roll ends game.

 

I hold two objectives and contest middle. He holds only one with Sternguard. Clan Bloodmaw wins!

Hate to rain on your parade, mate, but after you Gate, you can't do anything. Including charging, to what I can tell, unless the turn ran to 7 and he assaulted the Rune Priest, or unless I'm reading it wrong. Otherwise, a very well done game. It's hard for the 13th to win with Troops being the only scoring units, but it looks like you did a fine job. Congrats.

It's hard for the 13th to win with Troops being the only scoring units, but it looks like you did a fine job. Congrats.

 

NVM.

 

I saw where I messed up. The Rune Priest was not in CC with Pedro and the Termies, it was the Wolf Priest from the previous round of being assaulted. I just reread the part of that turn and saw my mislabel.

 

The Rune Priest gated in during his movement and then ran during his shooting phase to get within 3" of the scouts to contest the objective they were holding.
