Setomidor
Started out on a new chapter that is a Salamanders spinoff (using Red Scorpion details from forgeworld). I've created a testmarine, but I feel the colourscheme might be too close to the original sallys. Comments on the overall minature, as well as ideas on how to make it look less like salamanders are much appreciated! http://www.cs.umu.se/~danielh/greenMarine.jpg http://www.cs.umu.se/~danielh/greenMarine2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166072-testmarine-for-salamanders-successor-chapter/ Share on other sites
Marshal Rohr
Dude, its awesome. You should keep it just because fo how awesome that one model is. Can you keep up that level of detail? The green is different, it isn't the bright green normally associated with Salamanders so I think it looks different while still drawing a connection. Maybe you could do some kind of helmet marking? Like the same gold as the backpack in a single stripe on his head? Leahcim
You should keep that color scheme (and paint quality). It rocks ! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166072-testmarine-for-salamanders-successor-chapter/#findComment-1955329 Share on other sites
worrywort
Wow ! Great job ! I love your green ! What's your secret ? Maybe the interior of the shoulder is too like the salamanders (in black too), surch another color. The bolter too. A strip in the helmet could be cool as Marshal2crusad said. Ecritter
That is, I want to say awesome but its been over used already, perfect ... yeah I'll stick with that. If I send you my mini's can you paint them for me? ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166072-testmarine-for-salamanders-successor-chapter/#findComment-1955332 Share on other sites
DibbZi
Big deal so the colors are close to the salamanders, keep it, it looks good, I too am doing a salamander successor and I outright chose to use the salamander logo on mine. no biggie. keep up the good work! Setomidor
Thanks for all the positive comments everyone! I took the advice of changing the colour of the shoulder pads, and this is what came out: http://www.cs.umu.se/~danielh/greenMarine3.jpg http://www.cs.umu.se/~danielh/greenMarine4.jpg Better or worse? The green colour is the same on both models, but the light for these second set of photos was slightly better. The real green colour is probably somewhere in between those two. The idea with a stripe on the helmet is good too, I think I'll use something like that for squad / sergeant markings later on. LTP
Im not really one for weathering normally but this guy looks fantastic. Well done dude :P I think the second pad colour looks best its a better contrast with the green and really makes the mini pop. Keep it up! DuskRaider
That looks great! I love the green and the weathering details. If anything, you could use it as Red Scorpions, or even your DIY chapter if you feel you don't want Salamanders. Go with the scorpion theme. I think Death Stalkers would be a cool name, and it's actually the most venomous scorpion in the world (I collect scorpions). Setomidor
Thanks guys! What do you think about the base? The ice? Also, should the rim on the backpack be yellow or white? Dorns Padawan
Dude this model is solid!!!!! You second test model looks awesome with the white pads and the yellow power pack. Keep it as it is as now it looks nothing like a Sallie. Paint job is fantastic. How many layers have you given it? The base is nice and creative, perhaps paint the bases rim white? tastytaste
the shoulder pad choice really brought the mini together. I am not too keen on ice for the base, I was thinking something a little more industrial. Did you go with Ice so you can be opposite of Salamanders? AngryJohnny
Thanks guys! What do you think about the base? The ice? Also, should the rim on the backpack be yellow or white? I think the 2nd model you have done including the base is incredible! I think your 2nd model should be the template for your entire army. Very impressive work. Leave the armor exactly the way it is, go with the white shoulder and keep the backpack exactly as it is. It's a fantastic color scheme and extremely well executed. Mhorr
I agree with AngryJohnny, awesome painting job! Just a small tip for the base, i've discovered one of the best (imho) Snow base tutorial online, I think snowing this way will be perfect to match the painting quality of your army.
