Wolf Guard Hengist
The other night three of us got together and decided to play a 3 way 2k battle on a 9' x 4' board. We decided the scenario would have 5 objectives each worth a point and we would use kill points to decide the winner. The little twist is that at the end of the battle we would add up kill points inflicted on each faction and only your lowest score would count. It actually worked out ok and prevented and double teaming throughtout the battle. I didnt take any turn by turn notes so I'm afraid I cant do a turn by turn report but I will post some pics and highlight the battle. The terrain consisited of half city and half rural, we deployed in quarters and rolled off for first turn. The sneaky Tau won the roll off depiste my Venerable Dreads and he decided to go last, I took first turn and the Necrons second. I decided to deploy everything except my Drop Pods whilst the Necrons decided to deploy in the City quarter in typical Necron Phalanx formations with a spare monolith in reserve. The Tau on the other hand decided to deploy one unit of Pathfinders and in a tremendous act of cowardice kept everything else in reserve. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01894.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01897.jpg The Wolves started by dropping the Wolfguard into cover near the Necron Quarter and shuffled my tanks into better firing positions. Despite being closer to the Tau I only had one target for my long range weapons which was the great white Monolith I affectionately named "Moby Dick". The Razorback fired off a long ranged las shot and hit the Monolith dead centre taking out its propulsion system. The Wolfguard then decided to target it with assault cannons and again hit the engines taking out the monolith. In retaliation the Necrons threw considerable gauss fire at the Wolf Guard but only managed to burn off a few Runic Charms. The cowardly manner of the Tau Pathfinders was noted this turn as they did nothing, they will pay for this. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01898.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01900.jpg In turn two I rolled for my second drop pod and got my Ironclad, knowing I was sending him to oblivion I decided that the Pathfinder Devilfish needed some meltaaction so I podded him into the woods in the middle of the Tau deployment zone. One meltagun shot later turned the Devilfish into a crater with bits of pathfinder everywhere. The survivors cowered in the crater praying for mercy, there would be none from the Wolves this day. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01901.jpg The Necrons advanced avoiding cover as it interfered with the neat formations they had lined up in, there was a small exchange of fire between the Crons and the Wolf Guard but nothing really happened. meanwhile the scarabs shot across the battlefield pre programmed to hunt some Tau. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01902.jpg The Tau finally showed up having finished the cream bun tea party and decided to swamp my Ironclad with Pirahannas, not even my mighty Ironclad could take 5 short range fusion gun hits. The rest of the Tau reserves moved into position to get some shots in next turn. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01903.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01904.jpg In turn 3 I decided to take the fight to the Necrons and advanced my Wolf Guard into the city, they came under heavy fire which even the Runic Charms could not ward off, two of the mighty suits toppled over. My Rhinos and Dreads moved into cover shielding them from the rain of Rail gun fire which was likely to come next turn. The lascannon on my Razorback popped a Devilfish causing the fire warriors inside to spill out into the open. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01905.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01907.jpg To be continued...... Wolf Guard Hengist
Ok I can finish the report now. Once the Tau had finished the Ironclad off they moved into position to intercept some Wraiths and more Scarabs shooting across the battlefield while the other group of Scarabs chipped away at my Vindicator. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01908.jpg In turn 4 my Grey Hunters disembarked from the Razorback and laid into the scarabs swarming the Vindicator on the other flank my Wolfguard were now in charge range and ploughed into a TombSpyder but did not manage to kill it due to some terrible dice rolls. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01909.jpg The Necron warriors on the far flank had now engaged the Tau firewarriors in a game of who can chuck the most bullets, it looked like the Tau had the upper hand. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01911.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01916.jpg By turn 5 the Necron back field was looking very bleak as the Wolf Lord and his mates were moving onto the second warrior unit, they had been joined at this point by a Venerable dread who had taken ridiculous amounts of Necron fire on the way in. As a last ditched attempt the Unit of immortals threw themselves at the Dreadnought but were cut down easily after being beat in combat. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01914.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01915.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01917.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01918.jpg By the end of Turn 6 my Wolves had cleared the Necron quarter and the Tau were still engaged with the remaining Warriors as a last move my Grey Hunters swept onto two objectives claiming some extra points. We totted up the kill points and it was a clear Wolf victory followed by the Tau then the Necrons. In all honesty this wasnt a very serious game and was much about having fun more than anything else. The Tau player was taunted for his cowardice and the Necron player was applauded for keeping his warriors in neat Phalanx formations all in all a good game.
