Mycroft Holmes
When is a Leadership check NOT a Morale check? IE Can you force a Fearless unit to take Leadership checks that are not Morale checks? Legatus
Morale Checks are explained on page 43/44 of the rulebook. If a unit passes a morale check, it will suffer no ill effect. If it fails the test, it has to fall back. Morale checks are usually required if teh unit suffered at least 25% casualties during the shooting phase, suffered a tank shock, or lost a combat. Certain psychic powers or pieces of wargear may also specifically cause a morale check. Everything else that uses the leadership value is not a morale test. The two most common examples are pinning tests and psychic tests. They are not morale tests. If they are failed, the unit will not fall back. They are taken to check for other effects. In 4th Edition there also was the "target priority test", which was taken on the units leadership value, but that has been abandoned in 5th Edition. Fearless units are immune to morale checks and pinning, but they still have to take psychic tests. Frosty the Pyro
there are also a hand full of special abilities that force/require leadership tests. Fearless does not make you immune to said abilities. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166126-leadership-check/#findComment-1956046 Share on other sites
Mycroft Holmes
Word of the Emperor from the Deamonhunters codex "...All enemy units attempting to charge the psyker or his unit must pass a Leadership test. If they fail, they may not assault at all that turn." Mostly wanted a sanity test that this psychic power would work on Fearless units (all deamons); which I'm pretty sure it does. Seahawk
The Changling's ability and IG psychic power Nightshroud are the same: Take (pass) a Leadership test or not shoot that turn (or in the Changling's case, shoot at a friendly instead!). These are LD tests that aren't Morale checks. Even vehicles take it with Ld10 for both of the powers I mentioned. Mycroft other leadership tests that are not a moralecheck are those when you use it for psychic powers, psychic hoods, testing for counterattack for spacewolves, frenzied chaos dreads, pinningtests are also not moralechecks. and there are some pinning test that even fearless units have to take.
