Isiah
I'm planning on running the following as an allied elite slot in a tournament Deathwing army – his main role being that of countering psychic attacks. I have little points room for manouvre here, explaining his rather basic set-up: Inquisitor + retinue [106] Termy armour, psychic hood, storm bolter, null rod, [90] 1 x Hierophant [8] 1 x Acolyte [8] I have two questions: • is the null rod worth it's points? I reckon it is as the 5 points over a power weapon seems a bargain considering what it can do, but I could be wrong. • same for the Hierophant, but he seems useful to up the Inq to Ld9 to make better use of the hood. OK provided the null rod gets given the nod so to speak, how to model it? Would a black (obsidian) sword be appropriate, or even the nemesis halberd, or is there something else that could be used. For some reason I always picture a Napoleonic French Marshal's baton!! [edit] Just to say this is potentially the first time I've used an Inquisitor. I've been seduced by Forge World's excellent Lord Hector Rex [/edit] Cheers I Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166333-null-rod-on-a-standalone-inquisitor/ Share on other sites
DevianID
There is 2 things at play... one, the retinue is a pretty easy kill point, and two, with a retinue you cant pass the null rod awesomeness to a friendly squad. My vote would be to drop the retinue, drop the hood, and keep the null rod, and attach him to the squad you want to be immune to psychics. My vote would be the belial squad with banner and apothicary with attached belial. Second, the storm bolter is very underwhelming. I would either take a bolt pistol for the extra attack (requires taking artificer armor instead of termie armor, thus probably not an option in a deathwing, as you cant DWA the character with Belials squad that way), or nab a psycannon to beat on kairos fateweaver. You dont have a HQ slot open in your list? Inquisitor Agrippa
If he took an HQ Inquisitor than the retinue you told him to skip out on would become mandatory. I would see if you could squeeze in the points for a Psycannon. Though not there to give you the extra attack its added extra firepower to any squad is quite handy. archonbrujah
Are you adding the I for the hood? If so, a GK Brother Captain is LD10 and less points (also would more punch to a DW squad in CC) If your short on the HQ slots, elite I with no retinue would be safer then unarmored I retinue. Good luck on tourney! Archonbrujah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166333-null-rod-on-a-standalone-inquisitor/#findComment-1959645 Share on other sites
Isiah
OK thanks for all the input guys. Are you adding the I for the hood? If so, a GK Brother Captain is LD10 and less points (also would more punch to a DW squad in CC) If your short on the HQ slots, elite I with no retinue would be safer then unarmored I retinue. Good luck on tourney! Archonbrujah Yep the BC + hood and psycannon might be the best route, and would fit better with the termy armour theme as well as being able to Deathwing Assault with a squad too. Plus, I already have the models :P for him so no additional expense. I just thought the Inq would add a little additional flavour to preceedings – and an interesting modelling opportunity. Cheers all I Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166333-null-rod-on-a-standalone-inquisitor/#findComment-1960075 Share on other sites
