Faith usage in cc, flamers and divine guidance

I have 2 questions.

1. I have a canoness joined to a unit of seraphim. They enter close combat. Since we are supposed to treat ICs as separate units in CC, do I now have to test twice (once for the canoness, once for the seraphim) for, say, Spirit of the Martyr? I am applying this specifically to non-retinue units.

2. Flamers ignore cover. If I flame an enemy squad in terrain and invoke Divine Guidance, do wounds that become AP1 from the flamer also ignore cover?

Thanks in advance for the help and clarification.

For 1, you should only make the test once for any one usage of an act of faith. Combine this with the fact that a faithful IC joining a non-faithful Adepta Sororitas unit gives the entire unit the ability to use Acts of Faith and you get the conclusion of testing only once, adding the independant character to the total squad count.

#2 is a Definite Yes

#1 is slightly more complicated

Spirit of Matyr is used at the start of you're assault phase so you use it before the seraphim assault, while the cannoness is in the unit, you only roll once. However, at the start of your assault phase, you are in close combat, the cannoness and the seraphim are independent units, so you need to roll once for each

#1 will always be yes for three reasons.

1. IC join and leave squads only in the movment phase & are joined to any unit that they are within x" of.

2. Test is made prior to any assaut moves.

3. Sera with an attached Canoness are unable to hit & run.

To think of this as the canoness leaving and rejoining the squad is simply put over thinking the issue.

And as they say codex trumps BRB... Page 18 of our codex says that the act applies to the entire squad including attached faithful IC.

ICs are separate units because they can be singled out in close combat (ICs shouldn't be hiding amongst their ranks), with the exception of Retinues (Canoness and Celestians). They are still a part of the core unit because they ended their movement phase attached to said unit. ICs are a part of a unit if they end their movement phase within 2" of another unit, and they remain a part of that unit until your next movement phase. This is why Seraphim cannot hit and run with a Canoness attached, it is also why the Living Saint can't make a non-assault jump move in the assault phase if she is attached to any unit.
