Like to know the tale of the last fight?

It was against Black Templars. He was using 2 Crusaders filled with terminators and a couple of rhinos with mabye 5 marines in each. I had 2 squads of Grey Hunters with Razorbacks, 1 squad in Rhino and Blood Claws in my own Crusader, with Wolf lord and Ven Dread as HQs.

The game was Anniliation with pitched battle and I decided to go first. It started good with me Blowing a Crusader and decemating the terminators from inside early on, but then went downhill from there. The problems started with a missed melta gun shot at close range on the second Raider allowing him to wipe out my Hunters in assault. He then managed to wreck my Raider before I could close for my own charge (it having been hung out to dry on deployment). So I decided to charge the terminators with my Dread. This combat lasted way to long as he made an inordinate amount of inv saves. Maybe a bad mistake as I was running out of options to deal with the second Raider. Which after I had assaulted it with the Blood Claws tank shocked them and they legged it.

To be honest I was pretty happy with that as it was the best result I've had in a tournament, I think every other one I've been to has been exactly 50/50 win loss.

Bobman out.

You may consider leaving things in reserve, especially the Raider as it seems to be a counter assault type of unit which would do well sitting out for two turns until it's really needed. Alternately, you could deploy to a central location on your board edge and deploy close together. Avoiding a wide frontage for your army decreases the effectiveness of attempts to divide your force, but opens up chances for you to be flanked. Since there aren't any extra rules for being flanked in 40k other than vehicle armour values, it doesn't tend to be a significant problem.

Did the BT player deploy his army in a tight formation or did he adopt a wide coverage as well? Could you have, through maneuvers, hit his line on one end, making it more difficult for both of his raiders to orient on you?

Sounds like you need more anti tank.

Yeah certainly holding things in reserve would've been a good idea. As I was deploying to an empty table I tried to cover one side with the bulk and the other with the Raider as it can take care of itself. In hindsight a bad idea as it was not where it was needed.

On his part he started with only the Raiders on the table. Which was basically his army and went for the rest of my army.

Anti tank is a problem at range, although I can never get anything to work that well.

Biggest lesson I think is the deployment one. I was gonna flank him sooner but decided against it as there were dangerous terrain tests for my Raider and my luck was failing. If I had thought it was obvious he was comming to me so could've held the Raider back to counter like you say.
