Wolf Guard Hengist
Although I havent played in any tourneys with this list yet it is what I am taking to a tourney in July. I have played probably 15+ games with this list and although I cant give an exact win/loss ratio I have won more than lost with this list, it hasnt changed much in those gameseither except for a tweak here and there. Anyway here is my list:- Wolf Lord Erik Morkai Frost Blade, Storm Shield, TDA, Wolf Pelt, Runic Charm, Wolf Tooth Necklace. Hagar Longshot Venerable Dreadnought, Plasma Cannon, Heavy Flamer, Extra Armour. Drop Pod Hrosskell The Mad Wolf Guard Battle Leader, Lightning Claws, Wolf pelt, Belt of Russ 6 Wolf Guard Bodyguards WG1 Assault Cannon, Chainfist, TDA, Runic Charm, Wolf pelt WG2 Assault Cannon, Chainfist, TDA, Runic Charm, Wolf Pelt WG3 Plasma/Bolter, Power Weapon, TDA, Runic Charm, Wolf Pelt WG4 Plasma/Bolter, Power weapon, TDA, Runic Charm, Wolf pelt WG5 CCW, Storm Shield, Power Armour WG6 CCW, Storm Shield, Power Armour Drop Pod Gudmund's Grey Hunters 6 Grey Hunters 3 x Bolters 2 Plasma Pistol Melta Gun Razorback Las/Plas Turret Olaf Furybites Grey Hunters 6 Grey Hunters 3 x Bolters 2 Plasma Pistol Melta Gun Rhino Dozer Blade Hrosskell The Mad's Blood Claws 9 Bloodclaws 2xPowerfist Rhino Dozer Blade Gulli Swiftarse's Attack Bike Attackbike Multimelta "Giant Slayer" Predator Las Turret Hvy Bolters Storm Bolter Skjald Borg Vindicator Siege Shield I always try and use the same battle plan with this army and I try not to react to my opponents deployment I'd much rather them worry about what I'm going to do. My assault for is the Blood claws and a Grey Hunter pack supported by the Vindicator, on first turn I will drop my Wolf Guard into the area where the assault force will head. I always try and drop the WG into some area terrain as close to an objective as possible, from here they become a royal pain in the arse and require some serious hardware to shift and hopefully by the end of turn 2 the back up has arrived. I keep my attack bike well hidden and go for targets of opportunity and on the last turn they turbo onto an objective to try and pull off a sneaky last minute contest. My Razorback sits in the back field suporting the Predator and snipes at enemy armour, the Grey Hunters inside will try and protect the Pred from outflankers and deep strikers. Finally the Ven Dread is my "fire brigade" unit who floats around and deploys where he is needed depending on what turn he decided to drop pod in. As a final note I have to say I have priced my Rhinos and Razorbacks based on C:SM but with very little tweaking I price them up according to C:SW and it wont affect the list too much. Hope this helps WGH Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166543-your-best-balanced-list/#findComment-1961342 Share on other sites

Demogerg
My best 1850 list goes like this, im sure you could modify it easily for 1750 HQ Ragnar Blackmane Wolf Guard Battle Leader (TDA, FB, SS, RC, WP) Venerable Dred (Multimelta/Stormbolter) TROOPS 14 Blood Claws (3x power fists) 11 Blood Claws (3x power fists) 9 Grey Hunters (Bolters, frag grenades, 1x meltagun) HEAVY SUPPORT 1 Land Raider Redeemer (ex armor, multimelta) 1 Land Raider Crusader (ex armor, multimelta) DEDICATED TRANSPORT Rhino (attatched to grey hunters, extra armor) ELITES 5 Wolf Scouts (Meltabombs, 1x power weapon) 2 Wolf Guard Pack Leaders (power fists) i run the 14 blood claws with the battle leader in the crusader the 11 blood claws with a pack leader in the redeemer and the 9 grey hunters with ragnar in the rhino the scouts use OBEL and have a wolf guard with a power fist with them i run the army in detatchments that work together with goals in mind. Usually this end up being each land raider is its own detatchment, plowing forward to kill a powerful enemy unit, sitting on an objective, etc. the multimeltas and power fists work well as anti tank, and the volume of attacks+shots from the blood claws and land raiders handles horde very well. Its mobile and tough to crack, Very versitile. the Rhino and dreadnought require a little more finesse, but all you need to do is keep them together, and keep the grey hunters in the rhino blasting with the meltagun, never charge into someone with the grey hunters+ragnar, make good use of doubletapping and counter-charge to get 8x S5 attacks at I5 that always hit on 3s and ignore armor, ragnar alone can eat whole assault squads before they get to attack. the DCCW is excellent for ripping open enemy armor or instant killing characters, as is the multimelta. i use the scouts as a suicide anti-anything unit, they can pop 2 tanks on the turn they enter the field if you can double charge, or assault into a ranged combat unit that is trying to hide in the backfield like dev squads, lootas, etc. dont be afraid to get them stuck in, their job is to disrupt the enemy fire support. WG Vrox
That's a heavy hitting list WG Hengi, I can see the potential of victory by the amount of fire power you can bring to the table. Alot of squad and vehical upgrades make for good versitility. Long Fang
I see that the "Drop pod of doom" Is used elsewhere as well :P This is the list I'm using atm. Recently 4 wins 0 draws 0 losses I tend to drop on a flank, run the mech up on the same flank as DP's and pummel one flank and roll along the enemies line. dietrich
I posted this in the army list forum, but instead of linking, it's easy to just drop the text in from my word doc. This tourney was held February 7, 2009 in Athens, Ohio. A good turnout of 14 players, 4 rounds. Missions used Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary objectives. For primaries, the objectives were: objectives (4 total in one game, 2 in another) and kill points (everyone was 1 kill point in one, in the fourth, you selected five units in the opposing army to give up kill points – 1 for the unit, 1 for a dedicated transport if they had it). Secondaries and Tertiaries were generally based on territory (table quarters, terrain piece) or eliminating all of an opponents HQs, Elites, Heavies, or FA. I ended up winning all four games, and won the tourney. My list (roughly) Ven Dread w/ Plasma Cannon, Heavy Flamer Battle Leader on Bike – Frost blade, meltabombs Battle Leader in PA – Frost blade, meltabombs with 4 terminators with runic charms and (2 assault cannons and powerfists, 1 combi-plasma and power weapon, 1 combi-flamer and power weapon)) 4 Scouts with meltagun and plasma pistol 7x Grey Hunters in pod - 1 meltagun, 1 power weapon, bolters, WGPL with combi-flamer, powerfist and runic charm 8x Grey Hunters in pod – 1 meltagun, 1 power weapon, 1 plasma pistol, bolt pistols, WGPL with combi-flamer, powerfist and runic charm 8x Grey Hunters on foot – plasma rifle, bolters, WGPL with combi-flamer, powerfist and runic charm 1x Attack bike w/ multi-melta 6x Blood Claw Bikers – flamer and 2 fists 1x Whirlwind 1x Predator (autocannon, heavy bolters) Game 1 – Fleshtearers (Blood Angels) Corbulo Dante with Honor Guard 10x Tac Squad in Rhino 10 x Assault Squad 10x Assault Squad 10x Scouts 6x Death Company Baal Predator 2x Attack bikes with multi-meltas Set up in opposite corners. Started with night fight. I had first turn. I put the Pred, WW, Ven Dread, and attack bike in my corner behind a wall. GH on foot in cover in front. He started with all the jump packs ‘on the line’. I drop the GH and Termies near the center, where there’s a bunch of terrain. This creates some choke points, so he has to either take dangerous terrain tests with his jump packs. I took out a lot of assault marines in shooting, basically took out both assault squads by concentrating all my fire into them. When he assaulted me, I think he was surprised by the amount of damage that I could do. My bikes got bogged down against outflanking scouts in embarrassing fashion, but the Pack Leader managed to give Dante the ol’ powerfist to the face and my attack bike held up against Death Company for two rounds of combat to even it out. The Battle Leaders must have been out drinking the night before, they were horrible in melee (6 attacks, no hits on 3+ in one case). I won all three mission objectives – Kill Points was primary, and I forget the rest. Game 2 – Blood Angels (my friend Ed) Lemartes 8-10x Death Company 3 Tac Squads in Rhinos 8x Veteran Assault Squad 4x MM Attack Bikes 2x Baal Predators Won 2 objectives to 1. Game 3 – Grey Knights/Daemonhunters (my friend Mike) Grandmaster 5x Terminators (not a retinue) Elite Inq w/ two mystics Vindicare Assassin 2x Grey Knights 1x Grey Knight FA (Teleport Attack) Land Raider 1x Grey Knight heavy support squad w/ 4x psycannons Won 1 objective to none Game 4 – Mech Eldar (Kevin Kirby, who won 2007 Ard Boyz w/ Necrons and I’ve known for quite a few years. Plug for Flying Tricycle – check out their website and he does custom orders too). 2x Autarchs (w/ Fire Dragons) 2x Fire Dragons in Wave Serpents 4x Guardians in Wave Serpents 2x Fire Prisms Managed to win kill points 5-4. Mission allowed you to select five opponents units that were worth kill points. Didn’t expect much of a chance, but him starting off the board (I infiltrated the scouts, and dropped both GH packs on Turn 1 near mid-field) let me be at midfield when he arrived. I started knocking out transports, and then assaulting the survivors and/or dropped some whirlwind rounds on them (Guardians do no like incendiary rounds – S4 AP5, no cover). OnlyInDeath
Alright, so this is a list that I've posted before. W/L/D right now is 3/1/1, the only loss coming to a nid list that ended up winning the tourney that I played in, during which I rolled absolutely piss poor (out of 8 templates that I fired, the LEAST that I scattered was 6", no hits, nuff said). This list was made before we could use the points out of C:SM for tournies, so the math will need a little tweaking to be up to date, but with cheaper rhinos and such, it should still come out to just about where I need it. HQ: WGBL: bolter, PF, runic charm, WP, WTN Wolf Priest: standard, WP, WTN Vendread: ML, TLLC, EA Elites: OBEL scouts x6: 2xPW, MG, PP, 2x shotguns Troops: 9xGH: PW, PF, MG, bolters -Rhino: SB, EA, SL 10xGH: PW, PF, PG, bolters -Rhino, SB, EA, SL 12xBC: 2xPF, PW, Flamer Heavy: Vindi Whirlwind LRC (old standard w/ MM, PotMS, SL, EA) came to 1750 exactly This, to me, is the prototypical Mech list, able to bring punishing firepower to bear, enough anti-tank on the board to quickly deal w/ enemy armor and the troops to deal with any situation. With only 3 troops choices, obviously you have to play smart, using the units to the best of thier abilities while using the templates to shave down large troop squads, and letting the vendread go nuts popping armor, attack bikes, and the like. I think this list definately has the power to go much further than I took it in the tourney, my draw coming to having never played daemons before, plus it was my 2nd-ish game in 5th ed lol. As I said, the loss was a combination of awful, awful rolling on my part, combined with very very good rolling with my opponent. That being said, I still was just short of stripping him of his scoring units nonetheless and forcing the draw. I have used this list as the backbone for other, higher points lists like a mech/drop pod 2500 pt force, and also a 2k win I just had against ravenwing. If you give it a try, I find it's forgiving to basic mistakes, and also provides enough for a vet to tear any opponent to pieces, as I was able to table two of my 3 wins with it.
