Grimtooth
So I got to wondering about this the other day. Independent characters become part of a unit when they move within 1" of them. Does the reverse hold true? Could I move a squad of Grey Slayers within 1" of my Rune Priest and then use his Gate ability to then move them all across the board? In addition, an independent character can leave a squad he is part of by moving away from them in the movement phase. So at the beginning of a movement phase, can a Rune Priest use his Gate ability to move away from a squad he was joined with at the beginning of the movement phase? Decoy
Gate can be used on any unit with 6" regardless. Yes, the Rune Priest can Gate a squad that he isn't a part of by moving out of any squad he may have joined beforehand, although I also think he can cast it on the squad 6" away without even leaving the first squad... Haven't ever tried or done this, though, so it's just my cursory thought. Grimtooth
Wow, I have been using it all wrong. I have been using Gate and moving the Rune Priest with the squad he has joined only. This opens up a whole new game in far as objectives. Rune Priest with full Grey Slayer squad on objective next to another full Grey Slayer squad. Towards end of game, gate a squad of Grey Slayers within 6" and the Rune Priest and place them near another objective. Open fire on enemy squad claiming it or run towards it to either contest it or claim it. I think you would be able to do what you said since there are no restrictions on Gate as to what squad you gate out with other then the following: "The Rune Priest and one squad of Grey Slayers, Storm Claws (not Storm Claw Bikers!) or Long Fangs within 6" of him is removed from the tabletop and them immediately placed anywhere on the tabletop using the Deep Strike rules." The Rune Priest is just removing himself from cohesion of his current squad via Gate during his movement phase. It doesn't say closest squad within 6" it says up to one squad and then lists eligible squads. So the Rune Priest has to go as well. However what I had done in the past was that I gated the Rune Priest off an objective (leaving his squad to claim it) to near another objective to only contest it. Now however I can leave one squad to claim and gate with another squad within 6" to an objective and claim it as well versus only being able to contest it.
