Sambu
I built a while ago a Wolf Lord on bike and I have built 6 more bikers and a "Wolf Preist" (using a old chaplain on bike) on bike. I am trying to decide if i should use the six bikers as Wolf Guard or Blood Claws? Asking for opinions and also How I should equip them. My Lord on bike has a powerfist and frost blade (I know he's pricey but I do not use the bikes often but trying to). Thanks in advance! JEFF4i
Depends. Wolf Guard on bikes, when you equip them and use them well, are easily one of the nastiest possible forces in game, and a bit better than BC Bikers at WS/BS 4. On the other hand, they will cost you a lot more. I'd say use them as necessary, WG+WL on Bikes are generally pretty decent at being Anti-Termi and Anti-Nobz. Mantinel
I run Rune Priest with SS and Frost Blade along with 5 Blood Claw Bikers. Kind of expensive but bring quite a punch. Some might say RP is a bit unnecessary but I'll gladly pay those extra point to play out with Storm Caller. They are not the best option we have, but definitely opens a lot of strategic maneuvers. dietrich
I generally take 6 Blood Claw Bikers with 2 powerfists and a flamer. I then stick an Independent Character with a Frostblade on a bike to ride around with them. I typically use a Wolf Guard Battle Leader. Taking a Wolf Priest with Healing Balms is a thought, since the Balms are 5 points less than the cost of a BC Biker. Valhalla
I've also been running the Wolf Priest on a bike with Healing Balms. I've had him attached to 3 BC Bikers (2 power swords and a flamer). I've been considering switching to a WGBL since one with a frost blade costs a lot less but I'm wondering how to give him an invulnerable save. I run the new "wolverine" model as a wolf lord with the belt of Russ so that is off the table and a few posts earlier I saw someone mention they ran a WGBL with Frost Blade and Storm Shield. Is this Legal? It kinda fails the common sense test for me as you'd think he'd need one hand to drive. What about terminator armor on a bike? Someone mentioned this a while back and its been pretty invaluable. If you are going to take the biker unit, take at least 1 or 2 BP/CCW just to die, bikers can take a lot of fire and having that extra wound or two without giving up the big hitting guns can be essential. I like the Wolf Priest thing. I've been considering switching to a WGBL since one with a frost blade costs a lot less but I'm wondering how to give him an invulnerable save. Sense isn't always necessary, how can I shoot a demolisher cannon at a nearby enemy and scatter into myself? Just the rules, which are good in this instance. What about terminator armor on a bike? Hehehehe, I wish. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166585-using-space-wolf-bikes/#findComment-1961941 Share on other sites
OnlyInDeath
Yeah, my bike packs are similar to the above mentioned. I actually am working up to two full squads of 5 bikers for Apoc, with a PW, PF and flamer in each, two ablative wounds per pack. I always, ALWAYS have an IC in the unit, as it gives you 1 more ablative wound and much more forgiveness in CC. I either run: 1: WGBL, bike, pelt, wtn, bolt pistol and Frostblade. A stormshield could be nice, but if you are careful which combats you get into (with this mobility, pick on the heavy weapons teams!) and are sure to turbo boost where able, it shouldn't come up much 2:Wolfpriest, bike, HP&B, pelt, WTN. much the same as above, but trading +1 S in combat for a free death per turn...plus a built in invuln. It's slightly more expensive, but worth every penny IMO In the end, my apoc will have one of each type leading those BC bikers  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166585-using-space-wolf-bikes/#findComment-1962137 Share on other sites
Max_Dammit
I'm making the same as a bove, but i feel the pelts are a bit of a waste, If you put your wolves in a place to be assaulted, then your using them wrong. Got the Priest and WGBL done and got the bikes ready to build, but first my LRC Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166585-using-space-wolf-bikes/#findComment-1962303 Share on other sites
LPetersson
I tend to run 8xBC bikers + WGPL + IC and if I need points elsewhere I remove a BC biker as necessary. Powerfists for BC+WGPL and frostblade for the IC... Almost never fails to deliver, except for one time when they got too close to a unit of Fire Dragons... Well, if your wolves are effective in CC, then you may very well be in a position for the enemy to assault you in the following turn, especially with a poor consolidation roll. Plus, it's 3 points ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166585-using-space-wolf-bikes/#findComment-1962624 Share on other sites
WG Vrox
WL on Bike in Runic Armor WTN TH/SS Joins 3 BC Melta, PF Only different in what I have seen listed so far is I will run them behind or in front of 2 ABs with MM depending on what I think my oppenent is more worried about. I think more and more people are getting wise to shooting my ABs with ML and Las Cannons so that 4+ invol save makes for great defense. WG Vrox. Roguemarine
I run a wolf priest with 9 WG's on bikes, with 6 PF's and 3 LC's i usually tool them to the teeth, hah, necklace, charms, and a couple pelts...this also helps with wound allocation, not to mention being able to ignore one wound a turn on the unit with the priest. And i try to hit about 3-4 units with them when they initially charge. Focslain
Personally I run a squad of 10 bikers. WGBL – bike, frostblade, storm shield, runic armour, wolf pelt WGL – bike, WTN, Thunder hammer, storm shield, wolf pelt 8 BC – bike, flamer, power weapon powerfist At 512 pts, this is an expensive unit and is a hit or miss unit. I tend to use him to roll up a flank or go after those back line units by going around the army. I tend to run the battle leader and wolf guard in the center with the flamer front or side, this way I get the major bonus for the counter-charge if charged. Max_Dammit
You no longer have to make the move to counter charge, you counter no mater what and role to see if you get the extra atack. Quillen
I posted about my Bike list a while back. I run a WolfGaurd battle Leader with Frost and plasma on a bike. Rune Lord on bike with Plasma and power Weapon. Wolf Priest on Bike with Plasma and his gear. 8 Blood Claws 2 with Fists and a Flamer. It's a huge point sink, but it's won 2nd in a tourney of 24, and 2nd in a tourney of 18. It's won every battle but one. Which was a minor lose and due to dice rolls. I am making more bikers now and will make a Vanilla Bike only list with my Wolf Models. I have some really sneaky ideas. Blood Claws are fine and will take most things appart. In one fight the above listed sqaud killed 60 Choppa boys and 18 stormboys before a orc WarBoss and Nobs got on them. And then they killed everyone but the Warboss. (whom killed ever last one starting with the Wolf Lord who failed to hit him on 6 dice). Still I won the game. It's a power house.
