Sisters advice?

While rooting through my cupboards I found the remains of my old sisters army that never got off the ground. All I have is basic infantry (all the vehicles have long since been looted or turned traitor to serve some of my other armies).

This is what I found:

24 Bolter sisters

5 Stormbolter sisters

3 Melta sisters

3 MM sisters

1 Flamer sister

1 HF sister

1 Cannoness with book and eviscirator

2 Superiors with bolters

2 Superiors with pistols and cc weapons

1 Superior with 2 pistols

My question is: With the addition of a few tanks would it be possible to turn this into a workable army? I would rather not spend too much money on the army, but I have about a dozen spare SM rhinos which I could convert into any sisters tank.

I have no idea what is good anymore, so using most of the models above what kind of 1500 point force could I make?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi!

I had the same issue coming into 5th Ed with a 2nd Ed Sister army; i.e., not enough tanks to be competitive. The best builds for Sisters seem to be either all foot-slogging or fully mechanized.

I’ve played around with building squads up per the Codex and seeing how they faired in game. Looks like Squads of 15-16 Sisters are great for Foot, while minimum squads of 10 are best for Mech. There are those that love small squads of Celestians with a Multi-Melta, especially if you attach an Immolator to them. The only real consensus is that if you take tanks, every unit should have a Tank or be a Tank. If you don’t take tanks, every unit should be thick and mobile.

In the current edition of the game, you need to be prepared for anti-tank and anti-horde, which luckily Sisters can do fairly well. Just take meltsguns every chance you get, and at least one flamer in every unit that rides in a vehicle.

With what you have, Foot Sisters is a good start, with a small MM Retributor Squad to hold down one corner, 2-3 troops with meltaguns/flamer/stormboters, with your Canoness attached to which ever squad you think needs to extra hitting power.

That's a pretty solid base for a Sisters army swanky, so I'd say that you definitely have a workable army there! You could do with a few more bolter Sisters, as for obvious reasons they're the mainstay of any force. You could probably aim for 3 Battle Sister squads with Rhinos supported by some Exos as a core of your army and see what points you have left to play with.

Regarding using most of your models, you could create a foot slogging force with a couple of storm bolters and meltas are always handy. You'd want some more flamers (both normal and some heavy) as they're not only good but an essential part of any SoB army. Sadly the MM Sisters aren't of much use, though you could try and small Retributor squad with them in to protect and area.

There's plenty of good advice around here, so check out the =][= forum and don't forget the army lists section as that has a lot of army build musings in which you'll no doubt find quite interesting! As jeffersonian said, it's best to go either fully mechanised or not at all so you should consider how you'd like to play the army first. For what it's worth, I think mechanised is much better though you seem to want to tank them up already.
