Focslain
Well I’ve been bitten by the painting bug (finally!) and with the approaching date of my next apocalyptic event (The Great Wolf Challenge as the store has duded it) I’m going to be painting my wolves for the next few months. Looking over my collection of un/partially painted models I wanted to get as much of my wolves painted as possible by the event. So here is the list of what is due: 2 x10 man grey hunter squads 1 Venerable dreadnaught 1 Wolf Priest 1 Battle leader on bike 9 new bases for terminators 1 Command baneblade 2 Stormlords 1 Thunderbolt Fighter 1 Warhound titan 1 Predator annihilator 1 Predator destructor 1 Razorback 1 x5 man long fang squad 2+ drop pods 1 Leman Russ Exterminator 1 Land Speeder Tornado 10+ grey knights in PA 3 banners (one for wolf totem, 2 for the warhounds) 16 Dire Wolves I also want to add unit makers to all those that don’t have one (about 80% of my collection) If I have time I might add: 1 x10 man grey hunter squad 1 battle leader on bike (another one) 1 razorback (another one) The event is tentatively set for July 25th, so my deadline is July 24th. Some of these projects are already started, others aren’t even assembled or worse bought yet. But I have three months to complete all this, I see it as doable and the effect at the event will be worth it to have 15K of wolves on the field of battle. Also to have all this completed before the new codex arrives is vital to me personally as the restructuring of this massive army will be a project in of itself and I want to breath a sigh of relief as to the completion of the army before I have to (partially) start over again. For Russ and the All-Father, may I succeed in this mission. Focslain
well good luck, keep us posted, and don't die of exhuastion and paint fume abuse :) Luckily most of this stuff is already primed. Those that aren't will be primed by the store hosting the event (free priming to help out). So no fumes for me. I have scattered old pictures of some of these projects I’ll see what I can dig up and get more recent ones later this week. Here are a few WIPs, please excuse any low lighting, blurry or other wise bad pictures, most of these are +1 yrs old. Long Fangs http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/Picture921.jpg Wolf Priest (added to list) http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/Picture902.jpg Venerable Dreadnaught http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/black%20wolf%20crusade/Picture672.jpg Grey Hunter Squads http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/black%20wolf%20crusade/Picture269.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/black%20wolf%20crusade/Picture268.jpg More to come of course. Focslain
Sorry for the delay in updates, here are a few more WIPs as well as an update to plans for each (other then completing them of course) Predator Destructor http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0330.jpg I have the heavy bolter sponsons off for painting. I want to try and add some unit markings to this as well (something I don’t normally do). The question is where and what. Dreadnaught Drop pod http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0331.jpg A simple (yet frustrating) conversion, just removed the center from the model. I saw a nicely done one with an ‘enlarged’ door (just fused two doors together) that I’ll do for my next one, but I already was mostly done with this one. The only thing left is the wolf icons on the doors, but I need a new yellow and bone paint to finish it. Standard Drop pod http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0332.jpg My second attempt at the new drop pod, this time I built it standard (one of two or three I need). I have this built to match the cardstock droppods I’m currently using. I’m still having issues with the pylons/doors. Hopefully my next one will be better. (and built for terminators) Landspeeder http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0333.jpg I have to add the wolf icon to the hood (ran out on the drop pods) and get the magnetized weapons ready. I got a magnet in the hull (a sliver of an old hard drive) and what to make this so I can swap between an assault cannon (for 2K+ games) and a heavy bolter (for smaller games) Warhound Titan “Geki”* http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0334.jpg These aren’t the colours, though I’m planning on keeping the heraldry, I also have to get him a new Turbolaser arm (I have spares, but not primed). His paint scheme will match my Black Wolves company (his companion Freki* wears the colours of my other wolf army Fangtar’s Raiders). I plan to attach a banner to his under carriage once completed. The basics are for the red zones to be black, the black trim to bronze, the leg armour and arm joints to be ‘Shadow grey’ (I’m using Reaper for these so technically the colour is Twilight Blue, see predator for an example). * I wanted to name the warhounds after the pair of Fenrisian wolves that were Leman Russ’ companions. If I spelled their names wrong I apologize to my fellow wolf players Project notes: Due to issues at work I’m not going to be able to get the Thunderbolt, which stinks, but them’s the breaks (they cut my OT hrs down). I’m currently focusing on the Predator Destructor until I pick up some more paints, I’ve been slowly rebuilding my paint collection after my ex took all mine in the separation. I still need a bronze now that I think about it. Most of the two grey hunter squads are done, they have more paint on them then what is in the pictures above. And I’m looking at getting the baneblade primed this weekend and I’m going to see about getting a spray base coat to help speed this along. The Stormlord should follow next week in the same fashion if I can get it built this Sunday (crosses fingers on that one). With my OT cut I’ll have more time to paint so this helps and hurts as with less money I can’t get the models needed (those I don’t have) but I’ll have more time to paint. Next item building wise is to get the second wolf head sculpted to the ven dread and pin his waist (the guy took a fall recently and I haven’t been able to keep him standing since). Then I can spray and paint him. I’m also finding more scraps and items that need fixing in the army as a whole, but I’ll get those as time comes. Gyson_Vore
Very nice looking paint jobs, I did something almost exactly alike on my new Razorback, and similiar on my Land Raider Crusader. I especially like the Titan, where did you get it/how did you make it? Focslain
Very nice looking paint jobs, I did something almost exactly alike on my new Razorback, and similiar on my Land Raider Crusader. I especially like the Titan, where did you get it/how did you make it? The warhound (and his companion) are both the old Armourcast kits. I got them off ebay about 5 yrs ago. I believe Freki came with several additional arms as well. One of which I’m going t convert to a plasma blast gun. You might still be able to find them out there. The pair cost me a total of I believe $350, which is less then the cost of one forgeworld warhound. Plus I have a thing against the FW version (the thing has a truck for a face). These suit me better for attaching them to my wolves (and they do own them, they aren’t part of a Legio, not anymore at least). Focslain
Update time. I managed to almost finish my predator and droppod, but looking at the pictures I noticed it still needs some clean up work. So these still count as WIP Predator Destructor http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0335.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0336.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0337.jpg I’ve also gotten some head way in the grey hunters, one of the drop pods I’ll be picking up this weekend to paint. Bolters http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0346.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0347.jpg Plasma pistols http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0349.jpg Power weapons/fists http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0350.jpg I also got most of my redone Korlan Swiftclaw done (WGBL on bike), I still have to fix up his shield arm and GS in cracks in his legs and in the front shield of the bike. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0340.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0341.jpghttp://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0342.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0344.jpg I’m going to be pulling out the next predator (needs another base coat) and start on the baneblade, though for that I have to get another bottle of paint for the base coat alone. Also I plan to start on the construction of the Stormlord this week. Focslain
No problems, was going to do a trio of these but the difficulty of getting his legs right turned me away. Good luck on your own conversion and shot me line when you make him. Focslain
Actually it's more of 'End of an Era' deal. My LGS wanted to do a huge battle event this year since they managed to survive a year (1 yr anniversary party is this saturday). I made good friends with the owners and told them about my 'Chapter Challenge' where I field ALL my wolves versus the local gaming community. I do one every summer to get all the pups some air time, especially the titans. This year is different as they are making it an event for the whole store. So I want to have as much painted as possible since it's going to be an advert for them as well. Rumour has it a full Tallern IG army is going up for raffle for this shingdig as well. Focslain
Well RL has held me down in a sleeper hold for long enough. I finally got some time ot work on my wolves and only a little more then a month left (Frak me) :( Anyway on the good news side I managed to finish some Grey hunters today and work on some other things. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0405.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0406.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0407.jpg I got some work on my long fangs, I'm adding a better ax to my pack leader which I'll post later. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0408.jpg And finally a rough of my wolf priest, still a while to go... http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/Focslain/100_0412.jpg I'm also working on my last predator tank and I did manage to get the attack bikes done, just transported them to the store before I found my camera. I'll get a picture of them tomorrow (If I remember). Gyson_Vore
I like the way you used the brown on the pelts (And the white socks on the one torso), it's a different look than what most people use on their fur. The plasma glaive thing on the WOlf Priest looks awsome, what weapon didyou use for the polearm base and blade? Bretonian? Focslain
I like the way you used the brown on the pelts (And the white socks on the one torso), it's a different look than what most people use on their fur. The plasma glaive thing on the WOlf Priest looks awsome, what weapon didyou use for the polearm base and blade? Bretonian? I tend to go for a fox pelt on my basic marines. The plasma glaive is as follows: Pole - SM standard glaive blade - White scars spear (from bike squad) plasma - plasma pistol The hard part was getting the blade on the pole since it is not pinned. But bless the All Father she is holding well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166753-the-great-wolf-challenge/#findComment-2013753 Share on other sites
