Mosk
I have been out of the 40k shtuff for a little while and honestly I plan to for a little bit longer too as the main guy I game with is going to be out of state until august.... In the mean times I have been play testing mkII for warmachine.... any ways, I decided now is a good time to paint up my sisters. i plan on doing a dark gray scheme with dry brushed metalic silver metal (dont know what color exactly yet) and then the trim will be a light blue (almost a baby blue color i guess) So with that said, Does anyone know what base color i should use, black or white? I am thinking white, but i am lost after that. What would be the best base color for the gray, and how should i paint a darker gray? Also light blues, what blue colors are good, because I actually have never used blues from citadel. What blues would give me a nice baby blue color, almost white (and I am going to use white as a highlight and dry brush.) I am planning on having about a 1500 point army painted up by sometime in june. Hoep you all like it because it is a little bit different as i did some nifty stuff to it, like almost every single one of them has a helmet, lots of trading and well another way called cutting off the head and the next part I am not sure of the legalities (please tell me if this was ok, I already did it) but i used some silicon, the helmet from immolator set, and lead, so now nearly all my chicks have helmets B) also I took a green stuff mold of the flour de lis on one of the helmets of a seraphem and i put that on all of the heads of my VSS and celestians :) looks really cool. I will get pics up of the painted chicks sometime after may 8th (i have a ton of finals that week) SO any advice would be great on the colors :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166791-base-coating-sisters/ Share on other sites
Chengar Qordath
White is probably a better choice if you're going to include lots of dark grey; when painting you'll get a much better contrast with white than with dark grey on black. WarriorFish
Yeah, you'd be best off undercoating white - just make sure it's a light coat just as a primer so you don't lose any of the details. As for grey, codex grey may be a bit too light for you, but you could always give it a black wash to darken it a bit. The other option is the eternally useful foundation paint Charadon Granite. It's a dark grey, much closer to black - I tend to use it to highlight black myself. For the "baby blue" I think that Ice Blue is the colour you'd like as it's the brightest, or Ultramarines Blue though that's a fair bit darker than Ice. I reckon either would work with a metallic finish, though the Ice Blue would work better with silver. Really though the best way to see if you like something is to give it a go on a tester model. Fortunately SoB are metal models so if you don't like it you can just strip the model down and start again without "losing" a model. Good luck with your painting Mosk! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166791-base-coating-sisters/#findComment-1964632 Share on other sites
Eltnot
I actually use a black undercoat for mine and my sisters have white armour. The use of foundation paints means that you can happily use whit or black undercoats depending on what you're after with other colours.
