DevianID Posted April 23, 2009 Share Posted April 23, 2009 Howdy all... while the new IG book is 'not quite' out yet, my store has a sample copy which allowed me to legally construct the following list (vendettas having to be proxied until the model is released). I was very pleased with the results, considering that my opponent is running a very refined space marine list that is practically at the top of the metagame. I understand that I cant really put points or rules down, but if a mod sees something out of place please fix any transgression, though I will attempt to keep it 'clean.' My 1850 list HQ Iron Hand Straken with 4 meltagun veteran command squad 2 IG priests with eviserators Brother Captain Stern with 4 GKT retinue (1 incin, 1 THSS, 2 regular) Elite Guardsman Marbo (Rambo!) Brother Captain with Psychic Hood and 4 other GKT (1 incin, 1 THSS, 2 regular) Troop 2 IG veteran squads (Powerfist, Chimera, 3 Meltaguns, 'demo specialists.') 5 man IST squad with 2 plasma guns Fast Attack 3 seperate Vendettas His 1850 list HQ Pedro Kantor Stock Libby with Null Zone and Avenger Elite 10 terminators with 2 cyclone missile launchers 8 Sternguard with 2 las cannons, powerfist, 2 combi-flamers, 3 combi-meltas, rhino Troop 2 10 man tac squads with lascannon, flamer, pfist, rhino Fast Attack Land Speeder with 2 melta guns Heavy 2 Combi-preds (auto cannon pred with sponson las cannons) The mission rolled was dawn of war with 5 objectives--probably my weakest mission as I have very few scoring units and really rely on my army being on the board turn 1 to make use of the vendettas amazing scout ability. I won the roll for deployment, and gave him first turn to mitigate the nightfighting bonuses he gets from the fleet of searchlights he gets. He deploys a rhino and a lac cannon tac combat squad with pedro, to searchlight and orbitally bomb anthing I was foolish enough to start on the board. I deploy nothing, and choose not to try and sieze the initiative. His turn 1, he moves everything on, and begins twiddling his thumbs. He deploys centrally, with the 3 rhinos moving to form a wall to hide the termies, who are combat squaded, flanked on either side with a predator. My turn, I advance the 3 vendettas 24 inches each towards the center left of his formation, and in the vendettas I have Straken in the center flanked by a GKT squad with an attached priest in the other 2 vendettas. One chimera advances behind the 3 vendettas, the other chimera moves towards the right side to try and bait some units away from the 2 GKT front. The 5 man IST and marbo are in reserve. Turn 2, he has a pretty decent round of shooting at my vendettas, and despite the cover save granted by moving 24 inches, he wrecks 2 vendettas and shakes and destroys a las cannon off the 3rd vendetta. The chimeras are not shot at in favor of putting down the vendettas. All his tac rhinos push 12 inches forward and pop smoke, though the sternguard in their rhino stayed still to fire the 2 las cannons. My turn 2 i get no reserves. The Stern Termies + priest from one dead vendetta move into cover in the center, and roll a 6 for terrain to assault one of his tac rhinos that moved 12, immobing it thanks to the priests rerolls. The other termie unit disembark 2 inches from the last remaining vendetta, move 6, and charge a tac squad in cover, slaying all 5 with no losses. The Vendetta, since it cant shoot, moves up and in the middle of both termie units. Straken's squad moves into the vendetta to sheild him and still be within 12 inches of both termie squads for the furious charge and counter attack. Both chimeras move 12 and pop smoke, only a little behind the termies now. His turn 3, he takes both of the pfist combat squads in the rhinos, gets out and flamer+pistol shoots the termies in the center in cover for no dead termies. His shooting immobs and destroys all the weapons from the last vendetta, but doesnt kill it. His skimmer moved to multimelta a chimera, but I cover save the hit he rolled. Everything on his left flank moves away from the GKT that iced his las cannon tac squad... he now greatly fears the furious assault reroll to hit GKT squads, and that cuts deeply into his shooting on that flank, only putting a couple of bolter shots into them. The 2x5 tacs assault into sterns GKT in cover and shows how amazing counter attack is; I slay one entire 5 man squad before the pfist swings, and 4 from the other squad, and with my hammer at init 1 I also kill the last fist, though not before he swings. All in all I lose only the priest from st 4 attacks, and he only has 1 model left, the pfist. My hammer kills the pfist but, with pedro, the pfist gets 4 attacks, hits 4 times, WOUNDS 4 times, and i fail the save of the thss, incin, and 2 other GKT, leaving only stern! Part of why I failed all the saves was that pesky librarian who cast null zone, but still 4 htis 4 wounds is a bit too much! Stern goes forward toward the last tac squad. My Turn 3, I get the IST but no marbo. the Chimera on my left shoots the embarked squad's 3 melta guns and kills the nearby speeder. The Chimera on my right moves 12 to disembark the demo veterans in front of his 5 man termie squad. My termies on the left move towards the retreating left flank, assaulting the sternguard rhino with 3 termies, stunning and immobing it. Straken gets out of the now useless vendetta and moves in to support the termies by melting the retreating predator on the left. Stern charges the last combat squaded tac squad, killing !1! I dont use a reroll because with dice that bad, no amount of rerolls would save him from the counterassault by pedro + 5 termies in turn 4. The demo vets infront of the termies toss their S8 ap2 large blast, missing all the termies by scattering onto the pred, which it fails to glance/penetrate the side armor of. The 3 meltaguns and 16 lasgun shots at BS4 kill a whopping 1 terminator, the power sword sarge (he should have wore a helmet!) The IST begin advancing toward some objectives near my board edge. His turn 4, the sternguard+libby get out of their immobed rhino to shoot the termies and assault straken and the remaining termies on the left. Pedro+5 termies assault and kill stern (pedro hid in the back from sterns force weapon) and the 4 termies in front of the demo vets get assaulted. The 2 combi flamers, 3 combi meltas, and libbys pistol shoot the termies. Fourtunately the libby rolls boxcars for null zone, so I keep my invuln saves this turn, but the combi meltas and 2 flamers take their toll, killing 2 from Strakens nearby squad and wounding straken, and killing the priest and a termie. In assault, stern dies, the demo vets die, but counterattacking GK termies+straken kill the sternguard squad (and straken's squad dies, leaving just straken+3 termies left) In my turn 4, I still get no marbo, rolling a 1. The 2 chimeras all shoot the tac squad, the last troop squad, and the grey knight termies + straken also pepper the tac squad in cover. There are 2 tac members left as the only scoring unit he has, and I have 2 scoring units left. In his turn 5, he tankshocks the IST with the last mobile rhino he has, and they fail their check and run off the board :P The termies with pedro assault the GKT, but with counter attack I kill 4 of the 5 termies before they swing, and his attacks only kill 2. He then rolls an 11 for morale! and since I am a termi and can not sweeping advance, he has to fall back and goes right off the board! Man counterattacking GKT are awesome--the BC + 2 GKT get 10 attacks when charged, hitting on 3's wounding on 2's... SO GOOD! My turn 5, I finally get marbo, and put him within 3 inches of the objective his last 2 tac squad members have, contesting it. My last scoring unit, the demo vets, disembark and move+run to hold 2 objectives. Marbo falls .5 inches short of the last of his termies with his demo pack B) We roll a 2, and the game ends, with me having 2 objectives to his 0! EDIT: What I learned... The vendetta's moving the GKT 24 inches is UBER! Even when starting on the board edge via DOW and with the opponent killing the vendettas after only 1 move, the termies disembark, move + assault still hit the enemy with only the initial 24 inches. On pitched battles where they deploy 12 and scout 24, I will be getting first turn assaults all over the place! Also, I didnt need to fire a single shot from the vendettas to win this match, GKT close combat did almost all the heavy lifting--as it should be. Unlike the traditional GKT list with land raiders, the speed of the vendettas delivers the termies faster than the opponent can react, giving the opponent almost no time. Counter attack saved me SO many times... how I survived without counter attack before I just dont know. Also, the demo packs were not as cool as I hoped, but its only the first game after all. Iron Hand Straken is beastly... 5 attacks on the charge or with counter attack with the stats/save of a Grey Knight Justicar fits in well with the GKT squads nearby, and the bonuses he gives are simply game winning. I also completely forgot to issue a single order the entire game... it wouldnt have mattered a huge amount, but no cover saves for a squad or twin linked versus a vehicle may come in extremely handy in the future. Finally, Stern was really good in this list, especially since I dont have the points for a Grand master with upgrades, so he gives the hammerhands/holocaust/book/forceweapon for cheap, all of which really help the list out. No. Playing IG with allied Inquisition, especially with the new IG codex, is completely different from playing Inquisition with inducted IG. The B&C forbids discussion of armies not officially supported. And IG is not supported.
