Starting a RP HQ, doing a little conversion work. any thoughts are welcome,

Step1, the pieces

Step2, some GS on shield to add WTT

Step3, Trimmed the skull and added GS to make into a frost spear. I imagined it as an incisor to a small kraken. Can be a Frost Spear or power weapon. I figured I could also count it as a Rune weapon or even a Rune staff. wanted to make it universal as possible

Mock up on Storm Sheild. I figured he is launching/releasing his chooser with his right hand so in the mean time he is holding his spear in left hand and will switch it to his right afterwards.

Yeah I am slow, slow slow, but here is a bit of progress

Going to go with a white that has a hint of blue and grey for amour The sheild is pure white for reference.

Started work on his base as well.

I think I will go with a meditrian blue for the runes , weapon and some in the CotS.

Scenic base?

Yeah, its a cliff top looking thing, will be made of snow and ice of course.

Wow, forgot to reduce the size of those pictures.. opps. sorry.

Not happy with how blotchy my paint looks, but thats what I get for not letting the first layer dry enough.

WG Vrox.

Little more progress today. Not sure I like the blue, but its close. not sure what other color I would want though. Also not sure I am happy with the white, even though there is grey and blue it, it still comes across very white.

Well I suppose its up to you but I think the white could make sense. After all, wolf priests are black are they not?

And most codex chapters have blue librarians to mark them out to their battle brothers. A SW wouldnt do ultrablue nessecairily, but a White Priest, a spirit-priest... that sounds alot like Rune Priests to me.

There he is.. although I totally forgot Njal had a Raven, and made it a falcon instead xD

Anyways. I think the white might work, right now it's a bit hard to decide since the rest of the model is black.. but when you got his skin and beard etc painted I'm sure the colours will get better mixed on the model, so to say.

My Njal is very grey-white too, I usually paint my wolves in gun metal grey, pre-heresey-style. But for Njal I decided on a fortressgrey+white mix O.O

Actually I'm quite liking the white. As of right now he is looking the part of a Nordic frost god. Also I love frost effect on the Raven and the pelts.

I like the shield. And the white is great! I like metallics, so I say you should go with gold or brass for the runes. I also have a separate colour for my rune priests. Namely brass. (Or is it bronze? Hm. Not sure) As I said, I like metallics. My old Logan Grimnar is sort of bone coloured. (Made eleven years ago before there was a miniature)

I have not uploaded pics of my Njål Stormcaller (and my wife is away with the camera), but he follows the same painting scheme as below.

Another update.

have not used metalics in the past so for you Skrubb I added a bit of bronze, I think you will be able to see it better when I get more into the details and highlighting, second coat all that. The staff has been given me problems in finding that shade that shows off the black runes, went with a stormy blue.

Ok, I am sick of painting runes, ravan feathers and fur. I learned alot on this model and so it took me way to many hours to complete one model, but hey its my HQ right. Anyway Here he is in all his GLORY!

I Present to you

Spot on painting job there Vrox. I cant say I like the orignal cast of the model, I do like what you did with it. I think the lighter armor will really make him stand out with the rest of your army, as a true IC should

Nothin says butt kicking IC like beards, spears, and and more space wolf bling than you can shake a stick at.

I also was not a big fan of the base model, but I was hoping the spear and Storm Sheild conversion would give it more of a shamanistic flavor to carry it over whatever type of pose that is. I always guessed it was him castings/countering a spell.

Total hours into this model are somewhere near the 15 ish mark, crazy hu.

Thanks all for the nice comments, as most of you know putting up a WIP is more about putting pressure on oneself to finish as much as it is about showing off your stuff. So thanks also to all you lookie loo's for your umm silent partnership in this venture.
