mortiferum
So with the 5th Edition IG codex due immeniently, I wanted to start discussions regarding what is and isn't possible with the new codex. I'm specifically interested in what is acheivable when maintaining DH's as the parent list and using IG as allies. I've read and seen for myself that simply incorporating an infantry platoon we are able to mitigate quite extensively (by incorporating Heavy / Special Weapon squads) DH's usual lack of Anti Tank. This is all I've been able to determine for myself just through a very brief look at the new codex. I'm sure there are many more possibilities and new builds to play with that were not previously possible and I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this. Additonally, has the new codex prevented any of your previous lists? Cheers Morty Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166882-regarding-dh-parent-list-new-ig-allies/ Share on other sites
Ozybonza
Yesterday I played a game vs CSM and did quite well. I took: 2 x 10 man PAGK squads Land Raider 2 Dreads BC + 3 man terminator retinue IG platoon with: 1 x Platoon command squad, flamer 2 x inf squads, flamer 2 x Lascannon squads Those Lascannon squads really helped the GKs normal lack of anti tank weapons. As we rolled a KP game my plan for leaving the IG to sit back and hold objectives didn't come to fruition, but I still found the army worked quite well as a whole. DevianID
The only list I used to use that I cant any more is my list incorporating 2 armoured fist squads that unlocked roughriders and a leman russ. Now that armored fists are not around, I will have to pay more points than before by taking 2 infantry platoons--though the tradeoff is a pile more infantry to go with them. revnow
@DevianID: Actually, you end up paying quite a bit less for unlocking now than you used to. The base cost for an IG platoon is now 130 pts, compared to the base cost for an old armored fist squad which was/is 135. For the same amount you get 2 additional scoring units as compared to a Chimera, with the ability to take a number of special weapons and give/receive orders. You also now "unlock" heavy and special weapon squads. In killpoint games the allied platoons can mob up and still provide a significant amount of fire support and staying power (if a Commissar is included, which it should be). ALtogether the new Guard platoon provides Inquisition armies with a far greater number of options at a much cheaper cost. Hell, for only about 80-100 points more than the old as heck squads you can have 2 as heck squads and 4 additional scoring units (considering how cheap Chimeras are now), with all the extra options that as heck squads never had. @Ozybonza: That's a pretty brutal KP game for any army. If you mobbed up the Guardsmen that's an 8 KP army with a ton of assault and firepower potential. You might want to consider spending the 35 points for a Commissar for games like that. It significantly reduces the chance that your massed squad fails a Ld, and allows you to tarpit even the most effective assault units until the GK can show up to support. They're not ICs and therefore gain the protection of the squad's numbers as well as not giving up an additional KP. It would be 35 pts well spent. DevianID
While the base cost for an IG platoon is 130 now versus the 170 I used to pay for the Armored Fist, the 130 for the IG platoon doesnt include the chimera that I really liked. So for the Chimera + lascannon squad I used to get at 170, I pay 205, but I get 15 extra guardsman for those points. The platoon rules are really good if you want to play a fleet of Chimeras, as with 2 min platoon squads you can get 6 chimeras, and the total cost is only 590. Add 6 autocannons to those squads and your at, what, 650, and you get 12 s7, 18 s6, and 18 s5... its not bad by any means, but I dont own 6 chimeras either. EDIT: also, I count Ozybonza's list at 11kp if he combines the 2 10 man squads, 12 if the 10 man squads are kept seperate.
