Blonde Ragnar?

I was digging through my SW stuff as rumors about Space Wolfness are flying around. And I found good ol' Ragnar Blackmane, leader of my SW force sitting there with his blonde half-Abaddon hair. I went browsing through some minis websites to see how I could update these models (which are very old and havent been touched in a long time) and most of the Ragnar I saw were black haired.

What about you Brothers of the Fang?

What color mop does your Blackmane sport?

Well origanally he had blond hair. The Black Mane was from the black wolf he killed in the fluff. Well somewhere along the way some moron thought it ment his hair color and then suddenly he has black hair. This stuff happened all the time with Games Workshop. Masters of the fialed fluff line. The Marines were legion, NO WAIT!!!! They are chapters, No wait!!!...... They were starting something new and of course they screwed things up letting writes write books for them without giving them the fluff from White Dwarf and other sources so they did what they could with what they had, which was incomplete.

So paint him how you would like. Alot of the older players would know you were right, and then you can teach the newer ones about how GW screws up fluff all the time.

As far as I can remember the Ragnar in the 2nd edition indeed does have blondish hair. Aside from that I was told the name 'Blackmane' does come from the black Fenrisian Wolf Ragnar bested in close combat. 'The Hunt' it is called I believe? A Space Wolf going into the wild stripped of powerarmour and marine weapons to prove his prowness by a duel to the death with a Fenrisian Wolf?

Anyway, I thought he wears that Blackmanes pelt over his powerarmour I believe.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm not that well educated in Fenrisian lore. :D

in the second edition army book he was painted with blonde hair... as someone stated it was around the time of the 3rd edition dex and bill king books that he got black hair... probably a misunderstanding on someones part but hey... paint it blonde if you want the old school look or black if you dont want new players gping 'thats not ragnar *snigger* hes got black hair dont you know anything...' or even better blonde and punch the young'uns who point and laugh...

My Ragnar mini, which I got back in 2nd ed was initially a gift from my Father, who painted him blonde. a few years later I repainted him, blonde. and just a couple of months ago I repainted him once more, again, blonde.

It just doesnt feel like Ragnar if he is not blonde

I used to have a blond Ragnar, like everyone else whose been playing since RT and 2nd edition. When/if a new model is released with our codex, I'll have him painted as a blond again, too.

Regards,

Valerian

Edit: JCarter is right. Blond is the color, while a Blonde describes a girl/woman with blond hair. A man with blond hair, is just, well, blond.

Im not a Fan or Ragnar, enjoyed the series, respect his abilities, but just dont care to use him myself.

That being said if I did have a ragnar, hed be blonde. I do my Blondes either brown-yellow-white, or white-yellow-brown wash. I find it comes out fairly well for me, though depending on mood and model theres more or less layers of a given color.
