Quasarcq
I've been finding I've been using this manuever more and more. I play a mech sisters list, 4 rhinos with BSSs, 2x triple template and 2x two template and melta load out. I also have 3 exos, two jump cannies and a seraphim squad at 1850. In the last 2 games I have had two opportunities to tank shock, not counting on the enemy fleeing, but bunching together. My usual tactic is that my rhino squads act in pairs so they are fairly close together. I will have one rhino tank shock a flank of a unit (not the center) to push it together then have the next drive up and deploy a BSS. Usually I'll still have one unit stay in a rhino. last game I used an empty rhino to tank shock some shining spears which set up another rhino squad to get a good deployment and unleash a tri-template combo with DV. After that only the autach was left and had taken one wound. I have also used this tactic on deep striking deamons. With this I am sometimes lucky enough that I only need to move 6" so I can use my fire points and storm bolter. I typically don't worry about my loaded vehicle getting assaulted since I just disembarked a BSS to fire at the daemons. They are whats going to get assaulted. Also after my exorcists have suffered a weapon destroyed result they will go mad and tank shock and ram everything on the field. So they too are starting to play the herding game. Has anyone else been finding that this has also worked? Or has used a similar tactic. More and more I have been learning my rhinos are much more than getting a squad from A to B. Lord_Zyplon
If I remember correctly, tank shocked units don't give way to tanks anymore. Sucks, I know. =( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166922-the-herding-tactic/#findComment-1969427 Share on other sites
Quasarcq
Indeed they do. If a tank shocking vehicle ends up where a unit would be it must move away from the vehicle and maintain coherency and be 1" away from the vehicle. This happens no matter the result of the tank shock morale test, pass or fail. Although I usually run a footsloggers list I did try out a 'Spammolator' (like what I did there?) list a couple of months ago to great effect against a nidzilla list. The end result was a loss for the sisters in an objective based game but I did find that it made the game a lot harder for the nids as I could move units off an objective by tank shocking them and then just letting the immolators/rhinos sit on the objectives. It's definitely got the potential to be a game winner and if used in the final turn could really change the fortunes of the =][= player who manages to hold one objective whilst contesting or forcing your opponent out of scoring distance of the other objectives on the table. Lord_Zyplon
Ah, I see - the vehicle no longer must move it's maximum distance... cool! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/166922-the-herding-tactic/#findComment-1972204 Share on other sites
Corpse.
Glad to see others figure this out more frequently, without me, mutt-man and other guys spamming the darn tactic on this site. hehehe Check out the general tactics section for some fun details on fine tuning this tactic. Abusing the 1" distance rule from your tanks and having just enough room to flame up from behind the rhino pinch. You'll see it if you read into it there. Footsloggers link may also help you out.
