miazma
Hello, I've just finished a squad of wolfguard terminators (well, almost finished, needs some unique things on the bases like some parts of Orks or something ;-)) http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu113/miazma_/wolfguard1.jpg http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu113/miazma_/wolfguard2.jpg http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu113/miazma_/wolfguard3.jpg http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu113/miazma_/wolfguard4.jpg http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu113/miazma_/wolfguard5.jpg http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu113/miazma_/wolfguard6.jpg http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu113/miazma_/wolfguard7.jpg http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu113/miazma_/wolfguard8.jpg I'd like to receive comments, how to improve my painting skills ;-) regards, Johannes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167048-started-collecting-wolves/ Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Hey, welcome to the Fang, Johannes-Miazma. Nice to meet you. Those are some pretty wolfgaurd. Im not a fan of the powerfists as a unit, but they are painted well :). Im particularly fond of your battle damage, how did you get it to look like paint had been chipped off like that? Second comment: The drybrushed white that you have on them would look much much better on an ice-world base than a green base as it looks alot like snowdrifts going by the armor, as opposed to the more solid color that PA and TDA has. *shrugs*. So, got any more pics? When did you start playing wolves? Any questions? miazma
It's a 2:1 shadow grey - spaces wolves grey, which I've brushed just like the highlights ;-) I've had ice bases (mostly with ice blue and drybrushed with white... now I've firstly painted the base with bestial brown, den inked with badab black and drybrushed with bleached bone and a little bit of white. For the skretches and so on I've asked VanSan, a great painter :-) The bigger "shots" have been made with bestial brown and mithril silver in the middle, the thinner lines with bestial brown and a very thin line of white around it. Well, I haven't played and I need to paint a lot of stuff, so I need to finish my Redeemer and finish a Grey Hunter squad... and my assault termis, if the forgeworld order arrives this week. I've played 2nd Edition (Eldar) for about 4 years until the 3rd edition has been made. miazma
I'm not sure if I should try to add a very thin layer of 2:1 shadow grey and space wolves over a layer of shadow grey the next time and hightlight with a 1:1 mix or something, or I'm adding such a very thin layer (with much water) over the drybrushed layer. I somehow now think the armor could be a bit "cleaner". Grey Mage
Thats what I was talking about with the stray drybrushed white on the top... just looks odd. But then Im not known as a great painter by any means, and I have no camera so by board standards Im not sure I even have a painted mini! Hopefully one of the better artisans here about can help you, though you might also consider posting in the PCA forum. whitewolfmxc
He can properly says its just snow , represented by the white dry brush (then again base should be snowy XD) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167048-started-collecting-wolves/#findComment-1968511 Share on other sites
miazma
I think I'll drybrush with a lighter brown, it should be more like a wood or something :-) I've also added a very thin layer of shadow grey, so that the armor doesn't look that much drybrushed. Maybe I'll also add a very thin line with pure shadow grey for the highlights, I think they aren't really visible anymore.
