WIP IC Model

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow wolves... Ive been into modeling for a while, but just starting playing.... Im trying to decide what to do as far as my wolf lord goes...

I was definately gonna go Terminator Armor... I was thinking about a Frost Axe or a Thunder Hammer and a Stormbolter or a Combi-Flamer... And of course the mandatory WTN and Frag and Krak... What about MOTW? I have no idea about what really works in game situation...

thanks in advance

Ok, firstly welcome to the Fang! Ale is in the corner, don't upset the Rune Priests and if Bran runs at you brandishing the Exterminatussock - well, try not to worry about that. :P

Onto your question - are you using C:SW or C:EoT? If it's C:SW, a Wolf Lord cannot have MotW at the moment. Nor can it be combined with Terminator Armour. Similarly Frag and Krak Grenades may not be taken with TDA. However, the WTN, Frostblade and Combi Weapon are all solid choices, you also may want to consider a Storm Shield.

Yeah, and if your playing 13nth company *IE codex:Eye of Terror as mentioned above* you really wont want him in Terminator armor *TDA* as hell be rather slow compared to the rest of your forces.

That being said, Terminator armor, Frostblade, Combi-melta, Runic Charm, Wolf Pelt, Wolf Tail Talisman is how Id run a TDA wolf lord.

Why? Because terminator armor is cool, and effective, and cheap.

Frostblades are wonderful weapons at +1 strength but cant scatch alot of vehicles... wich is why a combimelta is nice. Lets you take out a dreadnaught or landraider at range, instead of assaulting it. I like my HQs to be able to do that. Also, with true grit it lets you have an extra attack.

Runic Charm allows you to reroll your 2+ save once per game, wich is alot like an extra wound and can really save your bacon against things like missile launchers were are insta death, but not AP 2.

Wolf Pelt means hell most likely have 6 attacks when assaulted, which is just godly.

And the Wolf Tail Talisman is good for a single point item... 6+ save against any psychic power, even if it doesnt do wounds *and I find the most damaging ones never do wounds directly these days*. If he has a bodygaurd Id give most of them wolf tails- fun to model, cheap, and if a single model in the unit makes their save they are immune to lash of torment... a cunning and filthy slaaneshi psychic power.

EDIT: One other word of advice:

Wolf lords are 15pts more than a Wolf Gaurd Battle Leader *WGBL* and get one wound and one leadership for it, so it can be considered a fair trade. But you might want to consider that 15pts somewhere else... like say a powerfist or some such.

Also, Wolf Gaurd Battle Leaders can, for all of 20pts, take an Assault Cannon or Cyclone Missile Launcher *CML* for 30pts, and they fire at BS 5.... its a very effective combination, though it does lose you an attack in the trade.

Ah... I was I was doing a mixup of both Eot and SW in my mind, but thanks for pointing it out! I want to go Codex:SW, so I was off on quite a bit... so, is this legal?

Wolf Lord Tyr Stormwulf

Terminator Armor

Frost Axe

Combi-Melta

Wolf Tooth Necklace

Wolf Pelt

Runic Charm

Wolf Tail Talisman

I was thinking about running him with a WGBG squad, but for all i know that is a terrible idea... If it matters i will only be playing in 2000+ point games, so for fluff reasons and since it is such a large point game, I decided i would just go with a Wolf Lord as opposed to a WGBL...

First off, I think that going Frost axe - Combi-melta is not such a good i9dea, since you will probably use him a lot more in close combat, and skip shooting and run with them.

So take a simple bolt pistol on him and he will get an additional attack for 2 close combat weapons. or maybe get a storm shield for 4+ IV save in close combat.

Other than that it looks pretty good. maybe skip the Wolf tail talisman, but thats what i would do, since i usually need to scrape points up in the end of making my lists.

And yeah, getting a cheap WGBG seems like a good choice. They can be an excellent wall providing cover for your other infantery.

And give us some pics when you start getting the model together =) :P

Sorry, but I disagree with you Seif3r. A Combi Weapon can provide a nasty one shot trick, especially a Melta at BS5. If you Drop Pod in, you can't assault anyway and can throw out a quick AT blast. Also, remember that with True Grit, we use a Combi Weapon as a Close Combat weapon.

No true grit does not work like that anymore, true grit only works with bolters nowadays, that is why it is a bad choice :)

Nope, that's how it used to work in 4th. However, the USR for True Grit no longer exists, so we refer to our Codex. Which says we can.
