Captain Donahaigh
While browsing the tutorial threads I came across this one looking for a scratchbuilt lascannon. Octavulg suggested using a missile launcher as a base, and thought I'd give it a shot, and took some pics along the way: Started with a Missile launcher. Cut off the section of the barrel, back to the square section. I would've also cut the power cable and the top handle at this point if I'd known how i was going to finish it. Next, I cut a length of pen cartridge for the barrel. I used a gel pen, it's almost exactly the same diameter as the launcher. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u269/ghulshagg/DSCF2329.jpg Glued the barrel, added some card strips to square off the launcher. I imagine some of the geniuses around here could come up with a much better way to do this, but I'm fairly satisfied with the result. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u269/ghulshagg/DSCF2330.jpg In my chapter, at this point the chaplains come along and festoon the lascannon in purity seals and holy litanies in an effort to hide shoddy modelling. Hopefully, it looks like something from a space marine armory, rather than a Mek's shade tree. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u269/ghulshagg/DSCF2331.jpg After gluing the arm to the marine, I couldn't find a left arm that would fit properly, so I put the trigger in his left hand, like the old (2nd edition, i think?) missile launchers. Ran some cables to the backpack for power, and i think its ready for paint! http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u269/ghulshagg/DSCF2334.jpg http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u269/ghulshagg/DSCF2335.jpg http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u269/ghulshagg/DSCF2333.jpg And there it is! Captain Donahaigh
That my friend... TBH, i don't own any lascannons. No-one i play with plays imperials of any stripe. Once i got it on the body, i could see just how massive it was, and just decided to go with it! I might be doing another, and I'll scale it down some, and post the results. Manfred vonKramstien
It looks pretty cool. I've got 3 lascannons in my devistator squad that I converted from Imperial Guard heavy weapons.
