ShinyRhino
When is it worthwhile to use the Company Standard Bearer upgrade for a Command Squad? The guy doesn't seem like he'd ever be worth his points. Rerolling failed morale tests isn't all that valuable to a Marine army, since most Marine units have a Leadership value of 9 when the sergeant is alive. The +1 wound for break tests as a result of close combat is ok, but doesn't seem like it would turn the tide of battle very often. The banner makes for some great painting and modelling possibilities, but I'm not sure I want to invest that much time in a piece that would never see the table. Opinions? Tactics? Warprat
I could see foot slogging Marine armies using it, as a way to reduce pinning. Bannus
Yes, most units have an Ld of 9 - but negative modifiers add up quickly and it can be no time at all before you fail a test that you need to pass. That re-roll can mean the difference. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167410-using-the-company-standard-bearer/#findComment-1978118 Share on other sites
yergerjo
I can't tell you how many times I've failed the one important Leadership check for my Vulkan with the Ld 10...would have been nice to have that standard bearer... ShinyRhino
Ahh, good point. I'd forgotten about the failed close combat Leadership test. Maybe he IS worth his points, and the time to paint him up. Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167410-using-the-company-standard-bearer/#findComment-1978834 Share on other sites
CrazyDA
To be honest, Even if you dont pay the points for him still put him on the table. Just make sure to tell who your playing that he isn't actually a standard bearer. Im sure most wouldn't mind. Race Bannon
When? Everytime. I just played a game v. Orks. I lost but this 5 man unit owned up on a 20-man Boyz squad because of that +1 to combat resolution. And this is just one example of when it can work for the marines :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167410-using-the-company-standard-bearer/#findComment-1981141 Share on other sites
