Luc O' Luck
Now, I've been wracking my brains, small as they are, all week trying to come up with a 1000 points Sister's build that is monetarily cheap but effective in points. Reading through tacticas, I've been told that units of Storm Troopers are no-nos, but I'd like your input. If you were going to make a 1000pt Witch Hunters force, what would you pick? Does anyone have any example lists? What's efficient in terms of cheap points? Any input you guys could give me would be awesome. panbient
there are no cheap $$$ units with a WH army. everything is metal. the sisters and stormtroopers (if you kasrkin minis) are the same price. most effective use of those points is all sisters to max out faith, but you're not going to get a battle force style deal with WH. a half dozen $50 boxes for the win. htj
I would strongly recommend including a unit of Seraphim. I regularly field 8 strong units with two twin hand flamers. Never once have I regretted taking them. They're pricey, points-wise, but worth it. Apogee
Money wise, check Craigslist->eBay->other online trading sitess, then your LFGS, then GW. Minis are cheapest from barter, then auction, then store bought. Since all sisters are metal, they're easy enough tos trip and repaint with some Simple Green. That said, Sisters are pricey. Your best bet is simply Battle Sisters, Rhinos and converting an olde Rhino into an Exorcist. I did mine with 6 of the old box-type HK missiles. You can use anything, really. The actual model itself is very very pricey($50), and a olde Rhino($5-$10) is very very cheap. I'd get a couple dozen Sisters, some Rhinos for transport/conversion, and paint away. Oh, and a Cannoness (or two). 20 sisters, 2 rhino transports, one flying nun (cannoness), and one exorcist will put you around 750 points. It's also a very well-rounded army, and a good way to start. Happy shopping! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167417-witch-hunters-1000-points/#findComment-1973518 Share on other sites
Imperator Mos
Well, seeing as how vehicles are the only plastics in the SOB range, I'd go armor heavy. Exorcists (Immolator kits with whirlwind launchers), and mechanized squads... However, at some point you will need Seraphim and Retributors. ArmouredWing
However, at some point you will need Seraphim and Retributors.Id have to disagree to some extent as troops are the key to an effective fighting force in 5th ed and your basic sister is agreat troop choice in the current game. I used to field a LOT of seraphim, 3 full squads on a regular basis, but since 5th ed coming onto the scene it is a rare game (more often than not only games OVER 1500pts) that i dust them off and field them in anger. The problem is although they got 2 significant buffs from 5th ed (being able to DS & still holding onto their own version of H&R) what they lost by far outweighed their gain, namely their status as a scoring unit. The problem for me lies now purely in the number crunching. 10 Standard Seraphim cot the same points as 20 standard sisters. Throw in the added costs of unit upgrades and then understand that it's as easy to kill a seraphim as it is a standard battle sister and for me it doesn't stack up. With regard to Rets in the current game they are considerably better value on the table, the weight of ranged fire is a nice touch in a 1000pt force but I can't get away from the fact that lots of troops is a good option for a low points game, especially when you can gear up the units with double melta guns.
