This is a tribute!

We are among the most bombastic players out there, and certainly some of the friendliest, or so I've noticed. (though, don't get us riled lest we chew up your sneakers and leave "presents" on your carpets)

Wish I knew why that is. I think it has something to do with the age of our codex. During 4th, for example, we and Orks (up till the end) didn't have as good a chance at winning a game as other armies, so we tended to adopt a lackadaisical approach to the game itself. I imagine this behaviour, coupled with the generally older ages of most of us, lended itself to a positive demeanor. It was the only way we could keep playing our army! Then 5th hit and both we and Orks became somewhat strong. Played right, we do well, and we retained our happy go lucky demeanor.

OR I could just be blowing smoke out of my arse. Either is entirely likely.

Do wonder why we wolves are so nice...

Agreed, I would have no problem walking up to a total stranging knowing they play wovles and chatting with them, a certain disposition can be expected as well as a mutal bond towards a fellow wolfbrother. If I came to find out they are a B&C member/reader so much the better.

WG Vrox.

On the note of the incoming bandwagoners, is anyone but me actually enthusiastic at the proposition? I mean, we can reasonably expect that about 6-12 months after our dex is released, we'll have choice pickings of any of the new models that come out for our dex, for incredible mark downs on the secondary markets. eBay, consignment cases, all around the country/world the market for used SW models will be so glutted, we'll be able to get things as cheap as 50-70% off!

The prospects of it, makes me giggle like a quartermaster glutted on the "special stock".

Side note: is it still shameless capitalist opportunism if the poor sots bring it on themselves?

I'm not looking forward to the new Dex period. A bunch of hairy Wolveri... Wolf Guards running around with Lightning Claws "coz we r wolves" just isnt what Space Wolves mean to me. I'd me more than happy with a massively FAQ'd codex like the Blood Angels, our codex would rock this way becuase of the magic phrase that some genius at GW came up with "Refer to C:SM", Hoo Rah give that man a pay rise!

Rant over....

EDIT: I forgot to add I think its our Venerable Codex that makes us lot here a good ol bunch of lads!

Actally, that quote wasnt anything special. There was a day, far far before the beginnings of "today" when many armies had "Supplemental" dexes, which refered to larger books. We are just the only ones left.

heh heh...every now and again I bring out my second edition codex, the old yellow and blue rules books, and the old school wargear book, and show up to tournaments and act like I don't know I'm 3 rules editions behind...I break out a D10 and the old "jam" dice and tell everyone I haven't played for a few years but want to get back into the game...I always laugh when some vanilla marine pup finally gets the nerve to tell me my codex is outdated...but the funny thing is it is only outdated by 1 release! Venerable codex indeed!

My Wolfbrothers and I were at Adepticon in 2008 and by the time the final round came up we were too drunk to see our dice so we had some random unattended kid help us read the dice...good times!

IMWO (In My Wolfy Opinion), I think the tendency described is 'cause us and Orks tend to be motivated by the thrill of "Dude, that's just too cool!" in terms of fluff and character, rather than motivated by "Fear the power of my fully armed and operational Codex!"

I can name a couple of Chapters (both, incidentally, named for "angels" though I'm not naming any names) that seem to attract more rules-intensive players...

Humm how about SmurfX ? XD

I totally disagree. GW screws up some stuff, but they've always kept us thoughtful, look at the Ragnar series and all of our dex's to date.

The true Space Wolf players are the most down to earth and friendly gamers out there! They are more concerned over how cool Space Wolves are than about the power level of their codex. He relishes the thought of his victories being told as great Sagas by the Rune Priests, and each defeat is marked as a grudge to be avenged.

So fear not the uncertainty of a new codex my Wolf brothers for we care not about the silly rules. It's about Ale drinking, superhuman Vikings in space that a true Son of Russ cares for.

Besides if you are worried Phil Kelly has written our Codex and boy did he do right by those foul Orks.

I think that the Phil Kelly thing could be a double edged sword, on one side of the coin I think to myself that he will make a fantastic job and make a really nice Codex that we will all love. Then I look at the other side of the coin and think about the Nob Biker/Battlewagon lists of doom that plague the world and I worry that there will be units in our Codex on par with this. I know the honorable Wolves around here would shun such lists but I know at least 20 scum bags around my area who will jump at the chance.

I wish there were more of them still. ^_^

Thats the truth of it... New codex or old codex, its the enthusiasm for the character of Space Wolves that defines a true Son of Russ.
