Bob's Epic Dark Angels

Recommended Posts

For those of you who dont frequent Warseer or Taccoms, I give you my Epic Dark Angel Army. Not quite done with all units, but getting there.

So my mission for the past year or so is to have a fully painted force for all of the Specialist Games. My most recent project involves Epic and my long neglected Dark Angels (not neglected as long as my Orks though). So I have been relatively hard at work putting together and painting a bunch of my stuff.

I posted this all on the Tactical Command site, but want to post here to let people know that, yes, Epic is fun to paint.

So here we go to start:

Will start out with my conversion of Sammael. He will be either my Supreme Commander or captain running around with my Bikes.

And the bikes. I had to convert a Attak Bike to match my old school bikes:

Keeping with the Ravenwing theme, here are my MoKI (Man of Kent I) Landspeeder Typhoons: I need to put together some normal ones someday too.

Next up is my tactical detachment. Every other stand in my army has a vet Sgt. Keeping with my 40k DA army, they must be robed. Sculpting robes at this scale really isnt that difficult. I wanted to add some additional heavy weapons other than the Missile Launchers, so I scratch built a Lascannon and used a couple more plasma cannons from the landspeeders. What is DA without plasma?

And here is my Dev Detachment. I did these before my Tacs, so dont have a mix of weapons. This disturbs me now.

I also needed some Dreadnoughts to go with the Tac and Dev detachments.

Not to mention a couple razorbacks for additional fire support.

So now I really need some Characters and Vehicles to flesh out my army.

Lets start with the Supreme Commander. Pretty basic here with just the inclusion of some robes.

And I like the Librarians, so i needed to have one of these. I couldnt put a robe on him, due to his stance, but I might convert one at a later date.

So like I said, vehicles. These are pretty much run-of-the-mill vehicles with no conversions. Not too exciting, but needed.

Landing Craft and Strike Cruiser. I am not super happy with the SC, but I doubt I will use it very often. Looking at the amount of airpower I have, Planetfall might be possible now.

Epic to me is giant warmachines crushing all before them. Enter my Warlord titan of the Legio Astraman (Morning Star's). He is not quite done, but I like him. He is made by putting a Mk2 Carapace on a Mk1 body. Fits real well and makes for a unique Warlord.

You should have a few objective markers customized for your army (in my opinion). Here is my first

Wow! the detail on these is phenomenal! I used to have an epic nid army but sick of painting so many tiny gaunts and stealers lol... the command squad in particular is awesome! and i love the RW Akira style bikes..if only the 40k ones looked that cool..

The Warlord is cool but seems a lot less detailed (paintwise) but as you mentioned it's not finished yet, will you be adding a tabard at all? i always thought it crazy how there were Epic titans that had loincloths longer than Central Park :)

Yeah, I still need to add Legio markings and a couple banners. not sure about the loin cloth, but there will be one off of the quake cannon and a back banner.

Did I say i was finished? Ok, I lied...

So I have been working on finishing up my Flames of War DAK army when I realized that my eyes were not sore from being super strained. "Something must be done!" I told myself.

Well, I needed another marine Tactical detachment, but didnt feel like more Dark Angels. Looking in my collection, I saw I had a ton of old MkI Marines already based up. So after a bit of cleanup, some minor conversions and green-stuffing, I was ready to paint.

What did I decide to do? Well, the Legion of the Damned of course. Must ruin my sight in some way.

Here they are.
