Magnetised vehicles

Recommended Posts

At work today when scouting the store I doiscovered a magnet set by army painter. 25 Magnets and 30cm of magnetic tape for nine quid. Intrigued I purchased this fine item and proceeded to magnetise my crusader and predator sponsons. Seriously I reccommend that anyone magnetises their vehicles as it is so much better than blu-tacking the sponsons on.

Who else uses magnets and for what magical and unusual purposes?

i know many, many gamers that do abide by this, and they love it, and it suits them.

Personally, I do not magnetize, as I believe that every vehicle in my army has a bit of it's own personality, and therefore I dont believe in changing it. Even with the points value change with 5th ed, I have kept all my layouts the same. It's who the vehicle is, it's what I want it to be, and as an Iron Wolf, I'm not afraid to just add more vehicles if I want another layout;)

I magnetize the arms on my Terminators so that I can switch up weapon options quickly, and for ease of transport.

I take a nail, clip off 90% of the shaft. Drill a hole and place it in the main body to that the flat nail head is flush with the body of the Terminator. Then I take a dremel with a 1/8" drill bit, drill out the socket on the arms, and place a 1/8" magnet into the socket. A dab of green stuff and some super glue later, and I have completely switchable Terminator arms. I enjoy the customization, and it ensures I don't scream with frustration when the new codex is released and my favorite weapons combos are no longer valid.

As far as vehicles go, I'm awaiting a Land Raider kit in the mail, so that I can magnetize the doors and allow myself either the Crusader or Redeemer variants. I'm really looking forward to it, as all of my Ork vehicles were magnetized for weapon swaps.

I dont magnetize, though I do try to keep things modular. Every one of my rhinos is also a razorback, Ive got extra turrets for razorbacks and whirlwinds sitting around, and even two spare predator turrets though I never use those. Rhino chassis are lovely like that.

I'm a big time magnetizer.

I just finished a Predator and it's 100% magnetized. I can switch the turret guns & the sponsons. Did the same for a Land Raider so that I can switch between standard and Crusader variants. The heavy metal hurricane bolters barely hang on ... got to love the rare earth magnets! I'm also in the process of magnetizing my dreadnought arms, I've got all the various types, but I've only magnetized the assault cannon, plasma cannon and DCCW.

Not PA, but I've also magnetized my Eldar Vypers. With 5 different weapon options, magnets come in very handy. I also magnetized the turret at the back so that it swivels around 360°.

I don't magnetise to change weapon options. It is simply to allow my bulky units to be transported as in the case I currently use and the one I'm purchasing does not have tray options for bulky Land Raiders of Predators. As said I used to use blu tack but that was fiddly so now I use magnets. It also porvides better grip in my limited experience (I shook my LR vigorously last night to see how strong the magnets were.)

I used small magnets for my Newly Painted SW Drop Pod, had to file and cut the original "mechanisms" on the guns and the thing that hold them in the roof od the pod. I put my magnets in their place and now I can easily change from a Deathwind Launcher to a Stormbolter :D

Really neat!

I am in the process of magetizing three Landspeeders, a Landraider, and Rhino/Razorback. I am doing this for two reasons one is for weapon swaps but the other is the most fun and that is because it is just cool to pull weapons off during a game to represent a weapon destoyed result. I played a game against a Chaos Marine player and popped his magetized Predator and when he was done pulling it apart there was truly an area of the board than was impassable terrain. He had it done right, where you could not tell that it was magetized and it was not flimsy and did not come apart when moved or have things falling off when he did not want them to.
