Space Marine Crusade Army in progress

Recommended Posts

So, I've always wanted to paint a space marine force but I hate to paint the same figure with the same scheme over and over again.

The new Space Marine codex gave me the perfect excuse to paint a multi chapter force: the crusade armies where several chapters combine forces to face a major threat.

So the plan goes as follows: I will be painting the different units in my force a different chapter each, for example, close combat terminators will be Salamanders, devastators will be Iron Hands, the Sternguard will be Imperial Fists, etc.

Enough talking, I present you the first step in a big project: a Brazen Claws scout biker, approximately 4 hours of work:

C&C not only welcome but desired!

Actually, I don't think that the Assault termys should be Sallys, they're siege experts, aka long range fire. I think you should switch places with salamanders and Iron hands and give the assaultys thunder hammers

I'm sorry but I disagree.

In my understanding, the Salamanders are close-range fire experts (as exemplified by their extensive use of melta weapons and flamers) and they have an unusally high number of veterans, also they use a lot of Thunderhammers.

Besides, I like the name of the first company (Fire Drakes, how cool is that?) and I see great opportunities for conversions.

So, appreciate the feedback, but CC termies stay as Sallies.

@Doghouse: Thanks brother, coming from you a thumbs up means a lot, I seriously dig your work.

Ok, so after a looong break caused by studies, I come back to the brushes.

Here is my WIP first LoD trooper, he 's pretty much finished (never been that keen on flames and I want a monochrome effect)

He will be carrying a standard in the left hand, but I need to buy some brass rod as the two pieces of plastic left when I cut the original shaft tend to bend no matter how carefully glued in place.

Credit where credit is due, the amazing idea of combining WFB skeletons and vanilla marines to make LoD is not mine, I "borrowed" :P it from a fellow brother here at the B&C (I'm sorry I don't remember exactly who you are, if you feel like stepping up and you care of giving some advice or opinion on my version of your idea I'll appreciate)

Very nice paintwork there. Care to share the Paint Recipes for the different colours?

Sure thing, that's if I can remember...

Let's see, black is Vallejo black and chocolate brown at a 50% rate, progressively adding pink (yes pink, try it) for the highlights with pure pink in the edges. Shadowing is glazed black.

Bone is chocolate brown+pink+dheneb stone for the base coat, adding more dheneb til a pure dheneb layer for the highlights and some glazes of Chocolate brown for the shadows. Same process for the robe.

Red ribbons are painted with a basecoat of Mechrite red+ chocolate brown, glazed with black+chocolate brown for the shadows and highlighted adding mechrite red and Vallejo golden flesh.

Browns are chocolate brown highlighted adding dheneb stone and shadowed glazing chocolate brown+black.

The grey of the sword handle and chain is Adeptus battlegrey, washed with black and edge highlighted with Astronomican grey and white for the extreme reflections.

As you can see, all color mixes are tied in by at least one tone, as I was looking for an "old picture" sepia monochrome effect.

Fantastic! Thanks for the quick reply. All of these are now added to my 'Recipes Document'.

Thanks again,
