Leman Russ Exterminator

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

After releasing new IG Codex i have a some little question about LEman Russ Exterminator profile. In SM 'dex autocanon have a 2 shots on its profile. In the new IG 'dex autocanin have 4 shots in profile. So, when i take LRE in my wolfs army which autocanon profile i must use - from SM 'dex or New IG 'dex?

SW dex, unless/until it gets FAQd.

SW dex says only about point cost and upgrade for LRE, but not about autocannon profile (no phrase "autocanon 36" str 7 Ap4 heavy 2").

Before new IG dex proile for auotcannon was one for all army, IG and SM. But now we have two different profile for one weapon. Some time ago when weapon profile changes in new dex all other starting use the new profile. How now i don't know (have some lonly break from game) and want to understand.

Brimstone over at Warseer implied the LRE is gone in the new dex, but hinted at a new Predator variant.

This seems pretty far fetched since if that was the case, the new IG codex would not have a tank named after our primarch.

Puhlease! :P We have had access to one variant for one codex edition. I always thought it was a silly idea in the first place; can you imagine trying to shoved a PA'd 7-8 foot tall marine in a guard tank.

It would take alot of Crisco, but you could make them fit. I personally liked the Exterminator, I thought it fit well as a close support tank, and the bonus that it was named after Russ.

i know you already got your answer but i just thought i would put in that it says twin linked autocannon so you use the autocannon stats just twin linked.

I used the leman russ over the predator for 2 reason: has the name leman russ and has 14 front armor. I didn't do much in an apoc. game versus chaos marines excpet for the lascannon, but when some eldar banshees showed up and tore my troops a new one the leman russ tore them up.

i have to say that its a twin link auto canon =2 shots until our codex updates and changes it in line with the guard book,

this is the sort of thing that hurts proxying i feel i wonder how many guards players will be using leman russ tanks (standard) as a variant because of the cost of forge world turrets and realy hurting the armys there fighting

It says Autocannon. We go to the SM codex to find said autocannons stats. Your cheating if you go to the IG codex, plain and simple.

I understand this. As i say early - some time ago GW change all weapon profile (for example) in all codex, then it change in someone new codex.

There is no problem for me - how many shoots autocannon do. I just want clear some grey moment which appearance before me after i return to this game.

But this situation make some lol - IG autocannon more advanced weapon when SM autocanon :)

it is things like this that make me think "why don't the have all the codices with all their fluff and what an army can take, but then have a Inperium of man Book, an Chaos Book, and some kind of xenos book with all the weapon, wargear, and vehicle states in it. that way they can wait to change ALL the weapon/wargear/vehicles at once, and if they want to change a codex they don't have to worry about out of date equipment." just my thought.

So an army of beer drinking, venison guzzling space viking werewolves, who bring pet wolves to battle, wolves that are tamed, trained and presumably housebroken by the simple expedient of defeating their pack leader in unarmed naked combat. An army of 1200 supermen who after 10,000 years still hasn't realised that their grey armor is, in fact, blue. This is all fine, but the idea that once, in all that time, one drunken Great Wolf might have splurted out the words "Leman Russ tanks, they are named after our primarch you know, lets have a couple of those" strikes you as a bit silly?

Well first you just throw out the several months supply of food and water the guard need, plus the bedding, toiletries and stack of naked calidus assassin magazines in the corner. After that you have an Iron Priest remove the heating, cooling, ventillation and air filtration systems along with the radios and other communication equipment which is redundant when all your crew have life support systems built into their power armor and are on a commlink. Then you use a varient where you don't need to stack gigantic battle cannon shells in the tank and use much more compact autocannon ammunition instead. You take advantage of the much better Space Wolf supply lines and reduce the size of the fuel tanks. Finally, since expense is much less of a factor for a Space Marine chapter than it is for a guard regiment almost everything else inside the tank can be replaced with smaller, more efficient versions. After you take into account that humans need a lot of space around them in a tank because as it bounces around slamming a human into a metal bulkhead isn't exactly comfortable but a power armoured wolf doesn't get bounced around and even if he did it doesn't really bother him you really have no reason at all why it isn't entirely possible to refit a Leman Russ for a Space Wolf crew.

In fact, considering all the crap the Space Marines can throw out I wouldn't be surprised if they have more room to spare inside than the guard crews have in theirs. Considering a Leman Russ has a body nearly the size of a Rhino I don't see why it would be a problem at all.

Will it be dropped? It is certainly possible (possible enough that I won't be buying one before the new codex comes out thats for sure) but it seems from C:IG and C:SM that GW are no longer worried about having too many things in the army lists. In fact the trend seems to be to make more things available rather than less so I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was left as an option simply because some people like it and there is no really compelling reason to remove it. I would like it to stay just since it adds a bit of colour without having any real downside, if people don't like them they don't have to use them but having the option for those who do like them doesn't do any harm.

Yes.

  • 1 month later...

Not wanting to raise a dead / dying thread for no reason but as I own an Exterminator I thought I would ring GW and get their opinion - got bored for a few minutes

The answer was; We use the stats in our codex - purely because they are there. If things were to change then we would find out. He mentioned something about the differences between the stats or availability of storm shields for different armies as an example. When I asked how the Space Marines could have a lower rate of fire than the I.G he mentioned that they were different options for different armies so I said ' they are both Leman Russ Exterminators available to both armies so how could they have different stats'. His answer - see above

I suppose we will just have to wait until later this year to find out wether or not we can still field one

Later - DGC
