Grimtooth
So I have my current "gaming" 13th Co warband that I cranked out pretty fast when I got back into 40k this past month or so. However it just does not have the personality that I usually do with an army. For example: All my HQ are metal cast models. New wolf captain/wolverine, gamesday wolf priest, and metal rune priest. Grey Slayers and Storm Claws are all using "stock positioned arms". Storm Claw Bikes are just plain and plainly mounted on bases. A couple of other generic feeling issues. So with that in mind, I intend on going out and buying anything and everything Space Wolf I can find right now left on the shelves and then await the new codex to even see if my 13th Co will be a legal army again. Until that comes about, I am brainstorming ideas and poses such as follows. Sheathed/hanging close combat weapons and/or bolters. Grenades/melta bombs in hands. Bored out barrels all over!! Aimed firing with bolters while ccw sheathed. Double handing axes/swords swinging while bolters stowed. Kneeling models: Long Fang missile launcher comes to mind. Long Fang pack leader with spotting scope pose. Storm Claw bikes converted to choppers Storm Claw retinue and Wolf Lord with assault legs. Better runes over all armor then my current quick painted ones. Using a carved out Ulrik skull as a Chooser of the Slain for my Rune Priest. I am going with pre-heresy color with minimal Chaos bitz. Just enough for people to say, "Ahh 13th Co" Magnetized HQ weapon options. Nice army display for tournaments. Being the type of person I am, I also want to model the following for fun and character: Grey Slayer with both weapons stowed eating a sandwhich ala the always hungry Sven from Space Wolf. Typical plasma gun Grey Slayer with hand up blocking the Gets Hot! rule. Storm Claw with dual bolt pistol quick draw from holster stance. Storm Claw with dual swords in some memorable pose. Long Fang heavy bolter guy with Chaos maruader arms ala Jesse Ventura in Predator, cigar included. Grey Slayer with close combat weapon stuck in ground or enemy skull/helm, bolter hanging or laying on ground, and giving double birds. Someone, somewhere in my army will have a green-stuffed squeaky toy attached to their belt. I am thinking the newspaper variety. Wolfy objective pieces made with great humor. Now quite a list, but I envision every squad member being unique and therefore every squad being unique. Since I already have a gaming army, I won't want to cut corners on some models to get them on the table to play. Just want to get my stock up now from a couple of stores I know that have SW still in stock and then wait for the codex to come out. Just a rant/rave. Comments and opinions welcomed. Warhorse47
Gaming is supposed to be fun. Sounds like you are on the right track to me. Can't wait to see Sven, as I am in the middle of the 2nd Wolf novel right now. Beef
you can never go to far with conversions (unless you paint them green or make them wear robes/dresses) As long as you are happy than We are happy for you. Just show us once its done. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167731-customization/#findComment-1977523 Share on other sites
williamdelgray
I think you can go to far, not with what you currently have though. But if you plunk down 40 some odd wolf models all with bolters in their mouths, well, that would be pretty boss. Vassakov
Generally, I think anything that you can justify by the existing fluff is fine. But the only real rule I ever think applies is: Do you like it? Does it fit your ideal army? Do you look upon your troops with pride? If the answers to the above are yes, then you are fine. If not, draw forth your knife and razorsaw, take up your paintbrush and hone your GS-Fu. Just have fun doing it! Now mount said bolters on said wolves via saddlebags and you got my attention!!
