Bloodletters

Recommended Posts

As the title suggests, how do you do it?

For the main body of the mini I am intending to go with:

Black undercoat

Mechrite red base

Followed by drybrushing up through Scab Red, Red Gore and Blood Red to get the definition of the muscles/body.

I'm hoping that this will give me finished models very quickly but still produce a nice effect.

Bone coloured horns and claws with Hellblades looking as though they are fresh from the smelter/anvil with white at the hilt working up to blackish orange at the point.

I stay with flat colours and drybrushing as mixing/blending just hasn't done it for me in the past.

What advice/opinion would everyone have on this?

Fr my Bloodletter I paint them with

Foundation Mechrite Red

Mud wash

Blood Red

Blood red mix with blazen orange to highlight area

Mud wash

Then the spot/dots is bright yellow.

You can see my Daemon Project log by profile (topic) or looking that the painting area. Dose not take long, take me three hour last time to finish a unit of 8, but then again it was during Nov time, it was bit cold & wash took a while to dry.

I would try out this guide:

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/...amp;aId=5400006

It seems pretty straightforward.

I have yet to get my new bloodletters yet, and as for when I modify them (lots of chopping) I'm a ways from sharing my scheme. I paint simlar to psychopath, well for my old pewter bloodletters anyways. (And half-heartedly Imust admit, I didnt like the models)

Black undercoat, two coats of scab red, add details.

That's literally all there is to mine, no washes or anything and they still look good. (In my mildly biased opinion of course :P)

There's a tutorial for lighter bloodletters in the librarium, I'll go get a link if you want?

Personally, I find it hard to get proper highlights on red unless I start from a white undercoat.

Even though I prefer my letters to be on the darker side, the light undercoat leaves the control to keep the highlights bright where I want them.

  • 4 weeks later...
I did mine with a white undercoat, devlan mud wash, then three coats of baal red wash, 2 coats of black wash the horns, blended the blades up to yellow and drybushed the freckles orange/yellow. The range of color isn't too great, the value difference between the shade and highlight isn't a wide as in other examples, but on the other hand it took me 4 hours to paint 20 of them and they definitely look good on the table. I still want to pick out the tongues and maybe the claws/teeth.

I went for a black undercoat followed by a coat of mechrite red.

Then a layer of scab red.

Full all over red wash with selective brown washing in the deeper recesses.

I then applied a light drybrushing of blood red all over.

The outcome is pretty close to the Bloodthirster pictures I've posted so I'm pretty happy with the continuity between all my daemons so far. i just need to pull my finger out to get some pictures of them on here.

Cheers for all the feedback though.
