S'jet
Hey guys, first model painted in years.. http://i684.photobucket.com/albums/vv205/Sjetaj/SoBTestF.jpg http://i684.photobucket.com/albums/vv205/Sjetaj/SoBTestB.jpg Was going well until i started the Robes. I dont know whether its the models, the robes on SoB seem very flat, but just couldnt get it clean. Anyone else found it difficult painting SoB robes? or is it just me :P The model is WIP, still needs touching up. CandC plz ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167862-sob-test-scheme/ Share on other sites
ShinyRhino
It looks like you're lacking an intermediate color between your highlight and your shadow. Try mixing the two 50/50, and blending the two colors together in the median points of the cloth. Imperator Mos
=][=nquisition approved. Maybe try a light brown wash over the robes. Everything else looks great. For more feedback, you might post a link in the Inquisition section... S'jet
Think ill try lightening my shade colour first. On the model I saw with these colours i wanted to replicate, parts of the cloak were alot deeper, whereas SoB robes are pretty flat. Thanks for replies so far. Obliterator
To be honest, there's nothing wrong with the robes. Sisters-robes are indeed quite flat, but you shaded them enough to make it believable IMHO. You could of course spice things up with a colored trim or such on them. I did that on mine and it really finishes your mini. Brother Gothard
Looks amazing! Make the gun a different colour from purple, though. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167862-sob-test-scheme/#findComment-1979059 Share on other sites
S'jet
@ Obliterator - Yeah, good idea with the border, will think something up ^_^ I've shaded with a lighter colour. Looks alot better now. Havent decided 100% on Bolter casing yet, but wasnt planning on adding too much colour other than Ivory and Purple. S'jet
Ok, finished the test model... http://i684.photobucket.com/albums/vv205/Sjetaj/SoBTestF2.jpg http://i684.photobucket.com/albums/vv205/Sjetaj/SoBTestB2.jpg Still not sure about the Bolter Casing, and might add a border on the Cloth.... any ideas which colour to use? Obliterator
For the bolter casing, I'd consider something light, something that contrasts with the purple armour. I'm even inclined to say to go with your gold recipe for the bolter casing, although I'm not sure how that would work with the regular metal... For the trim I'd just take purple, as this would tie in best with your color scheme. Picking any other color just wouldn't cut it IMHO. Hellstrike
I'd actually leave the trim off the robes. They look nice and cleanly done as is. Maybe save a trim for a specialist unit (Celestians, Dominion, Retributor) and leave the stock SoB squads without trim. Would help tell them appart, and then I'd have to agree with Oblit, purple all the way. Bolter casing... therese always the stock black casing. With as dark as you've gone with some of your purple shades it wouldn't look overly out of place and may pop the brighter highlights some. Either that or just leave the purple like you've got it. Again, maybe use different color bolters for different squads? Not an elegant solution but I've found its rather difficult to seperate units as the SoB models don't lend themselves to unit ID very well. Not a lot of places to mark them as belonging to their squad. Burias-Drak'shal
Very nice colour scheme. IMO maybe for the bolter casing a muted red, not to bright so it doesn't overshadows the rest of the model. Girathon
Hey S'jet, love your scheme (probably because its so similar to mine :), yours is just painted alot better overall), but I have to agree with the others who have suggested that the bolter casing be a different color. I went a strange route with mine (some say that they seem to be a little bit "Chaosy") and went with a green casing using extreme highlighting (Dark Angels --> Scorpion Green). Here is what it looks like: http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee285/Girathon/Sistas1.jpg I would really say however that you go with a muted right like Burias suggested, as I used that on my St. Celestine to great affect (just wish I'd thought of red when I did the regular SoB lol): http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee285/Girathon/P1010896.jpg Just some food for thought. I dont mean to jack your thread with my pics but if you feel I am, just LMK and I will take them down. Messanger of Death
I now know how I'm going to include some purple armour to my Black Templars. Gonna add in some Sisters of Battle. Thanks for the inspiration and as for the robes...they look very smooth and overall are great. Maybe a bit more shadowing in the most deepest areas. A dark gold bolter casing could work and I also agree with HellStrike regarding the black suiting. It all comes down to what you like. Brother Captain Andrecus
Very nice paintjob, and an excellent scheme. Better than the average angsty red+black stuff that you always see. Very nice indeed.
