Tamagoyaki
Hi, I've found really strange, confusing LR image in first volume of Horus Heresy artbook. It seems to be something strange, between Mk. I (original Rogue Trader model) and Mk. II (ie. FW model). Can somebody enlight me about this vehicle? http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/9118/strangelandraider.jpg PS. As usual, forgive me my crude english... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167869-strange-land-raider/ Share on other sites
clanfield
well the design originates from epic 3rd eddition but i thinkit looks fine as a old style land raider from the days of yore Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167869-strange-land-raider/#findComment-1978951 Share on other sites
Ignatius
I think it's meant to be a MKIIb. I Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167869-strange-land-raider/#findComment-1979027 Share on other sites
Grand Master Tyrak
That is the original MkIIb Land Raider, the precursor to the standard MkIV Land Raider that we get now. Forgeworld do a kit of it, here. Tamagoyaki
FW model is different, but I think it's just an artist's vision... but still I'm not certain ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167869-strange-land-raider/#findComment-1979032 Share on other sites
Thantoes
The artists impression of the weapons sure dont look like lascannons. More like autocannons or some other form of solid projectile cannon. Note the vents on the sides of the barrels and the muzzle flashes. Either way it looks quite spiffy. I especially like the very blunt nose. Vodunius
the precursor to the standard MkIV Land Raider that we get now. I thought the current kit was the MkIII? (could have sworn thats what the box said when it came out) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167869-strange-land-raider/#findComment-1979068 Share on other sites
Vassakov
Is this not the Heresy Era Spartan Pattern Raider - basically an inferior version of the Crusader, without any of the Crusaders gubbins. Vodunius
no the spartan was basicly a mk 2 witha a rhino chassi hanging of the front No the spartan was an upside down mk1 with a rhino hanging off the front http://usuarios.lycos.es/inquisitorweb/spartan3.jpg (the blue one was the design that WD included templates for) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/167869-strange-land-raider/#findComment-1979091 Share on other sites
jeffersonian000
That's a MkIIa, with the sponsons mounted forward. MkII's first appeared in Epic 40k, while the MkIII was released only in regular 40k. The FW version is the MkIIb, which looks nicer than a scaled up epic MkII would. The Emperor's Champion
Perhaps it is a MKIIa Land Raider Tartarus? It DOES look like Autocannons on there rather than Lascannons. The Land Raider Tartarus is mentioned as an older Land Raider variant that is similar to the Land Raider Prometheus. Theories of the Prometheus being developed from the Tartarus and whatnot. The only clear similarity here would be both having large caliber high rate of fire solid projectiles sponsons. Since we don't seem to know anything about the Tartarus except that it has is somehow similar to the Prometheus this is probably a pretty big leap, but hey, it sounds good. Skirax
This LR was a common sight in the Crusade, they are pre-Heresy marks, mass-produced across the growing Imperium. The Adeptus Custodes still use these early versions in the 41st Millennium. However, few rarely ever see battle...
