Perfect Enough? Flawless Host WIP log

I love your obliterator work. Seeing obliterator conversions make the Dark Mechanicus Magi in me smile. If I could smile. Can mechandrite mouth tenacles smile? Regardless, excellent work. Obliterator conversions by far, when done properly, are some of the best 40k conversions out there. And you, my Slaaneshi brother, have made some good ones.

My work on the 3rd oblit has been slowed down due to a lack of tools. I'm trying to do some arm reposes, but for that i need to cut them and my knife and clippers just won't do the job. So he's on hold until i go pick up a saw. In the meantime i'm continuing preliminary work on the first defiler.

I'm starting with the power scourge DCCW. The way it comes in the kit is pretty static and boring, so i'm re-building pretty much the whole thing. You can see how it looks normally, and the beginning of my re-build.

By the time i'm done it should be totally brutal.

Also in recent news, i'm about to go basecoat the 2nd oblit. Should have some painting wips of him soonish.

Painting on the second oblit is well underway. I have the cloak, plasma cannon, some cables, and the base left to go. Here's a couple shots of the angles that are finished.

I think his twin linked plasma pistols have come out much cooler than the first guy's. I'll get some better pictures tomorrow or the day after in daylight.

Yes, they are going to be the same scheme since i run them as a 3 man squad. The plasma coils will be silver with the old blue ink wash, same as the coils on the pistol and the powerfist powercable. It doesn't photograph well but its a great, shiny, almost glowing electric blue. I will probably then do some white highlights though since its such a large area.

Well its been awhile as usual, but here's a fairly large update.

First up, the second obliterator is finished.

Then we've got another sonic blaster finished, and a second almost finished.

And lastly we have a very wip third obliterator.

The arm repose on this third oblit has been very difficult, as it is my first time doing such a thing. I'm going for a relaxed sniper's pose. Still need a lot of wire, greenstuff, and plasticard work.

Let me know what you think!

As it looks like this might turn into the thread for this whole project i want to start by giving a shoutout to tortoise who's amazing EC have inspired me to try this. I hope he doesn't mind me stealing several of his ideas. Check out his blog here http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=155488.

I don't mind at all mate- In fact I'm very pleased I helped inspire this stunning army. It makes me want to get right back into doing my own EC. Unfortunately right now I just can't devote any time to painting at all.

Its all excellent but the obliterators are the standout for me.

Well its been a long time. First finals, then holidays, then settling into new classes and spending most of my creative energy on various writing projects. But now I am happy to announce that this project is resuming!

Progress has been made since i last updated. I have switched the list slightly, changing to 3 6 man squads instead of 2 8 man. All the marines are fully assembled except the 3rd doom siren champion. Both defilers are also fully assembled. I have just finished spray priming one and will be starting to paint it as soon as i finish writing this post. Pictures will be coming soon!

Thanks for all the positive feedback since my last update :tu:

Here's some pictures.

First up the rest of the noise marines. They just need to be based and painted. The pair of legs is the final doom siren champion. He still has a ways to go. If you can't tell, he's been a bit of a hack job. Anybody recognize where those metal boots are from? Yeah those were a bitch.

And now the defiler. Its magnetized, so i get to paint it in pieces.

I've started it with a thick drybrush of codex grey followed by a lighter one of chainmail and then a thick badab black wash. This basecoat won't be that visible in the end, but it it gives the nice dirty metal feel for the cracks and underbelly of the hull. I've put in the first few coats on the flesh tone and have just begun to do the trim in blue.

More on the defiler soon!

Contrary to popular belief, I am still alive. I'm also still painting, although it's been slow enough that I haven't been updating. I figured I'd wait until I had made substantial progress. I have, and so here are new pictures of the defiler!

It is still WIP, but there's a lot more paint on it now. The head and the torso are fully done. The weapons are mostly done, and the legs are about halfway there. I have begun on some of the leg armor plats, but they still have a long way to go. I am very pleased with the freehand I've managed on the torso and head. I'll be doing similar things on the leg armor plates.

In related news, this army and blog are now over a year old. Hurray for my productivity :/

I haven't updated in a long time, mainly due to not having a camera, and because I've been working on some DE. However, I have decided to finish this project before I start painting the DE. I've got the third oblit built, and I'm waiting for some new kits to arrive. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to post pics for awhile.

Those all look excellent. For traitor scum... Mad props, dude, the conversions are are really well done.

Thanks :(

Consider me a fan of your take on the FH, and now I have some inspiration for termie based oblits. Thanks! Good stuff. One part I really think tops it off the scheme is the red and white you introduce mostly on banners. Color choice is pleasing to the eye.

Thanks! The red and white was my main break from the normal color scheme. I wanted to make sure my flawless host were also different from everyone else's.

I've been working hard on finishing up this army for the last couple weeks. I've nearly finished all the conversion work and building, but there's not much point posting WIP pics as I paint everything before I attach arms and backpacks. I'm only a day or two away from getting everything primed and beginning the painting. The following are about ready for paint:

Predator

3rd Oblit

10 Daemonettes

6 Possessed

Doom Siren champ

A couple regular marines

All have greenstuff work and/or reposed limbs.

Once these are done, all that'll remain to do are 2 Rhinos and...the Daemon Prince, who will be left for last.

That Defiler is nuts. I saw your older post about the redone Power Scourge. Did that go anywhere? It looked like it would be really cool.

It's progressed some since those pics, but has taken a backseat to finishing other models. I think I'll be getting to it after this next round of painting. It's difficult to work on, as the wire really hurts your fingers after a bit.
