LRE Question

Just from reading the books I would interpret it as follows:

The weapon profile in C:IG describes a tank equipped with a Twin-Linked "Exterminator Autocannon" which would seem to me to be a different weapon to the Twin-Linked "Autocannon" used by the LRE in the Space Wolf book. This would suggest to me that the SW LRE uses a standard Autocannon profile which would be the same as that listed in the summary page of C:SW.

The IG LRE basically has a different turret weapon than the SW LRE and as such they would seem to be two different tanks with the same name. Unless someone can find a source to say that the SW LRE is now equipped with Exterminator Autocannons then it seems pretty clear that it still has normal Autocannons for which the summary page in C:SW or the standard Autocannon profile in the 40k rulebook would be the correct weapon profile to use (they are both the same).

Isn't the summary page obsolete? Thats why we use the Autocannon in C:SM isn't it? I'm fairly sure the summon page is not used, we had this discussion before.

I do not agree with what you are saying Skalver, your example is just a play on words. Thats like saying Strawberry cake, or Cake strawberry, its the same thing, it does not change the fact that you are eating "strawberry cake"

What I would agree with is... "In codex space wolves, it says TWIN LINKED AUTOCANNON, there are two weapon types in C:IG, The exterminator auto cannon, and the regular autocannon, I would say use a standard autocannon and twin link it because thats what C:SW says, how ever if your opp agrees there is nothing saying you can't use the actual exterminator autocannon"

guess I answered my own question ... sorta.

Just seems like that old arguement with the Grey Knights land raider crusader.. kinda lame..

The stats in C:SM are the same as in C:SW, so it doesn't matter. Also, the Exterminator was originally a FW model, so the rules for that would be different. The Exterminator in the IG codex is completly new, so the rules for it are the first of a kind. Just because it is an exterminator does not mean it is equal.

The summary page on the last page of C:IG lists seperate weapon profiles for "Autocannon" and "Exterminator Autocannon" leaving no doubt that they are two differnent weapons. "Exterminator Autocannon" gets its own entry in the Vehicle Armoury on page 70 and on the Leman Russ Exterminator page they use the phrase "Exterminator Autocannon" several times even the bold weapon name uses both words. Also if the wording was meant to just mean "the autocannon on the exterminator" then the correct usage would be to say the "exterminator's autocannon" using the posessive case. Not once in the new IG do they use the possessive case like that, they always use "exterminator autocannon" as if those two words were a compound noun.

The wording is pretty clear, the fact of having two different weapon profiles in the summary chart for both different weapon names strikes me as pretty definitive. They are two different weapons and the SW Exterminator just has normal Autocannons.

Obviously if your opponent agrees you can do whatever you want, but I would say the wording is pretty clear. It is also worth pointing out that the LRE actually went up in points cost in the new C:IG while most other varients came down in price cost suggesting that the tank was considered to have been upgraded though of course that is assuming causation for the points upgrade which could obviously just be an unrelated correlation.

As an addendum in C:SW the autocannon is listed as 48", str 7, AP 4, Heavy 2. In the old C:SM summary it is the same, in the 40K rulebook it's the same in the SM, IG and CSM lists, both the new IG and the new SM book also have the same profile. I am curious where the confusion about a changing profile for the autocannon arose? Maybe in some codex book I don't have access to?

Someone explain how, when one hears: "The IG got new Leman Russ rules," they interpret it as meaning "The SW got a new LRE."

Probably a better topic than the one posted...

Also somewhere in the LRE entry in C:SW it says not to use the upgrades or stats listed in C:IG. I assume that would be the best way to answer your question.

Some SWs are a little spoiled, since we get all the new stuff from C:SM. So they feel its a logical jump to get the new stuff from C:IG. Especially considering all the time we spend defending our ability to get stuff from C:SM. However, some people dont notice that theres no part of the rules that ever mentions C:IG. *spreads hands*.

I actually expected this to come up. If we keep the tank in the new codex, should it ever grace us, then well probly get the updated tank version... until then, we get the classic version.
