gil galed
So, i just bought a load of GK's off ebay, i already have a boltgun metal tau army so i was planning on painting all my GK's grey (Like these), however they have all come pre basecoated in boltgun metal and i have to say as a colour scheme it looks pretty good (although paint is a bit thick on some of the indented bits so i may have to strip um anyway) Basically do you think they would be better grey and so different from my tau or just make um silver cause they look good? o i'm gonna give them resin lava bases if that makes any difference. like this Lava bases Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168086-grey-or-silver/ Share on other sites
blood_raven_240
I'd go for a grey - as close as you can get to the GKs in the Picture  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168086-grey-or-silver/#findComment-1982093 Share on other sites
jeffersonian000
Stick with the boltgun metal. They will keep the same colour scheme as your other army, and that's the way I run mine. SJ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168086-grey-or-silver/#findComment-1982096 Share on other sites

Grand Master Tyrak
I tend to lean more towards the 'knight in shining armour' look, and use a Mithril Silver highlight on my GKs. I doubt it's canon, since their armour is strictly speaking unpainted ceramite, but I still like it. Grand Master Iapetus
If they are based boltgun, you could use a wash or ink to tone it down. I have seen the minis you posted on the link and they are definitely first class. I have also seen them done in a deeper charcoal grey - I couldn't find any pictures of minis on the net, but I did find a drawing of what I am talking about: http://eurocorp.blogspot.com/2006/02/its-m...day-whee-i.html And hey, if you really want to start from scratch - Simple Green works wonders... Tom James
I like sliver myself, and use Amaco Rub 'n Buff for my finish. Start with an undercoat of grey gesso as primer, then rub 'n buff all the metal areas, and then do highlights in red, blue, white, black and gold. If you wanted something less shiny, the rub 'n buff pewter would work great too. I decided to use these things after looking over this about gesso and this about the rub 'n buff. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3162/3443827120_3059b306c3.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168086-grey-or-silver/#findComment-1982856 Share on other sites
Ozybonza
I actually mix blue with silver for that "blue steel" look. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168086-grey-or-silver/#findComment-1982915 Share on other sites
