Black Templar army [large pictures]

Recommended Posts

Hey I started on a Black Templar army around a month ago but have been very lazy so haven't really painted much atall since I last posted a thread on my 'vanilla' templar (no upgrade kit). Since then i've decided to to try and get them to look as good as I can possibly get them. I've become a bit more motivated to paint more recently so I was just looking for some feedback on my progress to help me improve. My main concern is my highlighting; looks a little bold to me but in normal lighting it looks alot more subtle, what's your opinion on it? would love some feedback on it (criticism welcome!)

Update: Bit slow on updating but here's my finished Chaplain, i'm pretty pleased with him considering I'm still quite new to painting :) apart from this guy I haven't really painted much else.. losing motivation =/ but yeah here you go -

Here's the first 3 units I made using the BT upgrade kit -

Initiate with power sword

Regular initiate (used some Khorne berserker legs I found lying around on this one)

Initiate with bolter that I still haven't finished off ;)

I then got bored of initiates and moved onto a new boxset of Terminator's I bought recently, only painted two so far, I've yet to highlight the one with the assault cannon(would like some feedback on the highlighted one first before I do it on the second!)

They look great, I don't think the highlighting is bad by any means, though a couple of dilute coats of badab black might help blend it all together.

Also, it's too late now, but there's some fairly brutal mould lines on those models which really detracts from the quality of the paintjob, they'd look awesome instead of just great if those weren't there

I like them alot. The paint looks smooth and crisp. I agree with the need for a black wash to help blend in the highlights on the terminator. Nothing else to comment except to get some more Templars painted so you can play some games with them.

Cheers, Messanger

Edit - I didnt notice the mould lines till after blackbabyjesus pointed them out. And remember that if the rest of your guys dont have mould lines, then no one will be able to notice the few that do.

I'e got a question regarding your highlighting. How do you get it to photograph so well. Mine never seems to show up in picks. Maybe I'll try it with something other than a white back ground since yours show up well with the desk and hoby stuff in the background. This is probably a long shot though.

Thanks for the feedback guys! much appreciated ;)

and to the Damned, I use a Halogen lamp to work with (they're insanely bright and tend to give you a headache) when I take pictures I have it shining down on the model and turn the flash off my camera to get a reasonably even picture, hope that helps.

Anyway I haven't painted much atall since I made this thread, but started working on my Terminator Chaplain yesterday to go with my Terminator squad. Unfortunatley I got a bit of a :cussty model, as some of the mould is deformed and clumpy, if you look at his right shoulder in the second pic he's missing a chunk of it =/ I didn't notice this til after I had primed him.. here's my progress on him so far anyway -

Took a lot of filing to get rid of all his mould lines but i'm rather pleased with him so far! bit peeved about his right shoulder though ah well.
